Professor Perry Hobson, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement at Taylor’s University, was invited to go on camera and to share his views on the future of education. Ms Preeti Varadarajan, the Project Manager for EduTECH Asia said that, “Technology is changing the way we live, work and learn. It is also having a profound impact for educators and academics on how we teach, where we teach and what we teach”.  Professor Hobson was invited to be the track leader for the “Tertiary Leaders Forum” as well as a speaker at the EduTECH Asia 2017 conference. The Forum sessions included a series of presentations and interactive panels.

The panel sessions focused on topics such as “How to tackle the challenge of research being prioritised over teaching quality” and “Balancing Act: Investing in infrastructure management across the connected campus”. Prof Hobson’s presentation at the conference focused on “The changing value of the university campus as part of the student experience”. As he commented, “The development of our iconic Taylor’s Lakeside campus, transformed the learning experience. Yet, with the addition of blended learning - students can and do learn anywhere, and at any time. So lectures are no longer the only perceived ‘value’ of coming to the campus” adding that ”we are continuing to transform the learning experience and the value of it to students, with the additional of 29 new X-Space classrooms and social learning spaces such as our E-Quariums”.

Prof Hobson had been invited to the Chair of the “Filipino Education in ASEAN” session at the EduTECH Philippines 2017 event that was held in Manila earlier in the year, and has been invited back to speak at EduTECH Philippines 2018. Ahead of this year’s main EduTech Asia 2017 conference, Taylor’s University was also pleased to host an EduTECH Asia ‘Meet-up’ at the Lakeside campus to bring together speakers and thought leaders in Malaysia.
