Twelve students from the College of Engineering & Physical Sciences at the University of Birmingham (UoB) recently arrived in Malaysia. The students from the UK are going to be spending 3-weeks in Malaysia, and working on a project with a group of students from Taylor's University's School of Engineering. The two universities have been working together on a number of levels, and over the years many Taylor's University students have articulated onto the University of Birmingham. But this is the first time that a group of UK students have ventured to Malaysia. During their stay, the British students will not only be learning about Malaysia but also collaborating with a group of Taylor's University students on an engineering project. The first part of the project is to build an EPIC Home for an orang asli (aboriginal) family. The students initially all got to know one another using the Taylor's MOOC platform, and have also used Crowdfunder to source funds for the materials for the home. The second part of the project, is to jointly develop a new technology for use in the house. Furthermore, three staff from the University of Birmingham will be visiting Taylor's University during the time that the students are here to engage with the project and various other on-campus activities within the School of Engineering.
