Welcome to the Bachelor of Psychology program at Taylor’s University!

As head of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, I want to thank you for your interest in taking a dynamic and growing pathway to educational attainment in psychology. This is wonderful moment for us: Taylor’s is a fast-rising university whose activity in creating new research and industry partnerships has been steadily increasing.

Since its establishment, the BoP program has focused on blending clinical expertise with connections to the counselling and therapeutic sectors within Malaysia. Our faculty embrace a teaching philosophy that puts students at the center of a holistic educational experience that is closely mentored and unique. Moreover, through partnerships with leading global institutions such as the University of Sheffield, we are able to offer students international learning opportunities which highlight our commitment to global citizenship as a key component of the experiential learning process.

The BoP program is also distinguished by a strong commitment to the study of psychology within a liberal education context. By “liberal education” we mean education that focuses on preparing young people for positions of leadership and social responsibility, and for careers which will require integration of diverse technical and cultural proficiencies; multiple domains of knowledge; and intelligence that is both rational and empathetic. More and more, we seem to be encountering a world that is increasingly complex – Taylor’s University’s curriculum is designed to prepare students for such a world by teaching them how to become lifelong learners who can manage complexity and, from it, produce results that are good and useful to others as well as to themselves. We base our design on the charge given to us by our university’s chairman, Dato’ Loy Teik Ngan, who has envisioned the Taylor’s University mission as one of “educating the youth of the world to take their productive places as leaders in the global community.”

I can think of few areas of study which better prepare students for the twenty-first century than psychology, which prepares students to understand human needs, emotions, and responses to change. This is why the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences has invested in the BoP program as its first degree-bearing offering, as we believe that true leadership starts with empathy and understanding of the intricate workings of the human mind.

Please consider joining us! We welcome applications and would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the Bachelor of Psychology program at Taylor’s. We think that we have created an exceptional community here which will, through first-rate instruction and networks of supportive alumni, help in enabling past, present, and future “Taylorians” to realize their dreams of success at the global level.

Yours sincerely,

Matthew D Johnson, PhD
