Postgraduate Funding

We offer various research-related postgraduate scholarships for students enrolled in our masters and doctoral programmes at Taylor’s University.

As we believe, research can help shape the future. We want to support students involved with our postgraduate research programme financially so that they can become effective researchers that contribute to the needs of our community.

Listed here are the types of postgraduate funding that Taylor’s University offers.

Taylor’s  PhD Scholarships 
Taylor’s PhD Scholarship scheme is a prestigious postgraduate funding programme awarded by the University to outstanding postgraduates who have passion in research and demonstrate leadership qualities. This fellowship is offered to full-time academically outstanding local and international research mode candidates on a yearly basis. Under the tutelage of their supervisor, Taylor’s PhD Scholarship recipients are trained in academic writing and publishing to enable them to be effective researchers.

Criteria of Eligibility
  • Bachelor’s Degree with CGPA ≥ 3.33  AND  Master’s Degree (Coursework / Mixed mode) with CGPA ≥ 3.50 or by Research mode from any recognized local/foreign universities
  • Below 45 years of age at the time of application
  • Secured offer letter of PhD admission at Taylor’s University
  • Applicable to candidates on full-time mode only
  • Applicants with publications in Citation Index Journals (CIJ) will have an added advantage
  • Interview and written assessment are required
Entitlement
  • 100% tuition fee waiver for a maximum of 36 months / 3 years full-time studies
  • 100% thesis examination fee waiver
  • Monthly stipend of RM 2300 – RM 2800
  • Settling-in allowance of RM 1500 (International student only)
  • Conference allowance of RM 6000
Specific Terms & Condition
  • Must submit one (1) article accepted in Citation Index Journal (CIJ) by the end of Semester 4
  • Must submit one (1) article accepted and one (1) under review in a journal indexed by SCOPUS database and / or International Scientific Indexing (ISI) journals by Graduation
  • Require maximum five (5) working hours per week – duties can be in the form of leading tutorial session, conducting mini lectures, supervising undergraduate projects, laboratory class demonstration and / or any other assigned task deemed suitable by the School
Taylor’s Reseach Scholarship
Students interested in pursuing their Master’s / PhD’s studies at Taylor’s University in any of our postgraduate research programmes may apply for the Postgraduate Scholarship. This award is offered to support research in all areas of studies in the University and to instill excellent values amongst postgraduate students academically and socially. Award recipients are expected to devote their efforts to research and publishing articles as well as participating in University events and activities and getting engaged in various non-academic activities like community activism, charity work or educational services.
 
Master 

Criteria of Eligibility
  • Bachelor’s Degree with CGPA ≥ 3.00 from any recognized local/foreign universities
  • Below 45 years of age at the time of application
  • Secured offer letter of Master’s Degree by research admission at Taylor’s University
  • Interview and written assessment are required
Entitlement
  • 75% tuition fee waiver for a maximum of 24 months for full-time studies OR 50% tuition fee waiver for a maximum of 36 months for part-time studies  
  • 100% thesis examination fee waiver
  • Monthly stipend of RM 1500 (Full-time student only)
Specific Terms & Condition
  • Must submit one (1) article accepted in Citation Index Journal (CIJ) by Graduation
  • Require maximum five (5) working hours per week  (Full-time student only) - duties can be in the form of leading tutorial session, conducting mini lectures, supervising undergraduate projects, laboratory class demonstration and / or any other assigned task deemed suitable by the School

PhD 

Criteria of Eligibility
  • Master’s Degree (Coursework / Mixed mode) with CGPA ≥ 3.50 or by Research mode from any recognized local/foreign universities
  • Below 45 years of age at the time of application
  • Secured offer letter of PhD admission at Taylor’s University
  • Interview and written assessment are required
Entitlement
  • 75% tuition fee waiver for a maximum of 36 months for full-time studies OR 50% tuition fee waiver for a maximum of 60 months for part-time studies  
  • 100% thesis examination fee waiver
  • Monthly stipend of RM 1900 (Full-time student only)
Specific Terms & Condition
  • Must submit one (1) article accepted in a journal indexed by SCOPUS database and / or International Scientific Indexing (ISI) journals by Graduation
  • Require maximum five (5) working hours per week  (Full-time student only) - duties can be in the form of leading tutorial session, conducting mini lectures, supervising undergraduate projects, laboratory class demonstration and / or any other assigned task deemed suitable by the School
 
ASEAN Tourism Scholarship 
ASEAN Tourism Scholarship is open for application by nationals from ASEAN member countries, to pursue postgraduate research studies (Master’s / PhD on areas related/ relevant on ASEAN tourism. The research focus should be aligned to the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan (ATSP) priorities. 
 
ASEAN Tourism Scholarship – PhD 
 
Criteria of Eligibility
  • Bachelor’s Degree with CGPA ≥ 3.33  AND  Master’s Degree (Coursework / Mixed mode) with CGPA ≥ 3.50 or by Research mode from any recognized local/foreign universities
  • Research proposal must relate and relevant to the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan (ATSP) 2016 - 2025 priority areas
  • Below 45 years of age at the time of application
  • Secured offer letter of PhD admission at Taylor’s University
  • Applicable to candidates on full-time mode only
  • Applicants with publications in Citation Index Journals (CIJ) will have an added advantage

Specific Terms & Condition
  • Must submit one (1) article accepted in a journal indexed by SCOPUS database within four (4) long semesters of admission
  • Must submit one (1) article to a journal indexed by SCOPUS database after the third (3) long semesters as a requirement for continuous funding in the fourth (4) semester. An evidence of such submission must indicate that the article has been sent for review as stated by the journal editor.

Q2The Scholarships in Q1 are applicable to whom?
  1. Applicable to eligible local and international students commencing from August 2017 intake onwards. Should a student defer to the following year,  scholarship offers may be revised to the prevailing scheme applicable at the new intake date.
  2. Student must have secured an Offer Letter of Admission from Taylor’s University.
  3. This scholarship is applicable for study at Taylor's University in Malaysia only and is not applicable for the period of study at overseas partner universities. 

Q3. What are the closing dates for scholarships application?
The scholarship application will be accepted throughout the year. However, the student will be placed in the next possible intake if the scholarship application is approved. The whole process of scholarship approval takes at least two (2) weeks.  If a student wishes to enroll into a programme prior to the approval of scholarship, the student requires to bear the fees for that particular semester. International students will need to take into consideration of visa application processing time of 8-12 weeks before intake commencement date.

Step 3 Complete “HIGHER DEGREES BY RESEARCH FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION FORM” and the Research Proposal Template attached to the form. (Click here to download)
 
Step 4 Submit the items mentioned in Step 3 with ALL relevant supporting documents and/or testimonials, including the first page of every publication (if applicable) to the Enrolment and Advisory Services – Postgraduate (EAS-PG).

Q6What do I need to prepare if I am shortlisted for interview and what is the evaluation process like?
Step 1 The shortlisted candidates are required to deliver a 15 minutes Power Point Presentation on the research proposal submitted to the Centre for Higher Degrees by Research (CHDR).  This will be followed by Q&A by a Panel of Evaluators.
 
The Scholarship Evaluation criterion include the following:
  • Academic Excellence
  • Quality of Research Proposal     
  • Communication, Interpersonal and Leadership Potential
 
Step 2 The Interview session conducted by a Panel of Evaluators on weekdays 9:00am-5:00pm Malaysian time.
 
Step 3
 
The candidates are notified on the outcome of the scholarship application via email by CHDR within 2 weeks from the date of interview.
 
Step 4 If awarded, scholarship recipient is to indicate acceptance of offer of scholarship to CHDR via email within 7 days from the date of notification.  The scholarship recipient is required to sign an agreement prior to the commencement of the programme.
 
Note: All decisions by Taylor’s University are final and no further appeals shall be entertained.
Q7If I am successful with my scholarship application and I am a local student, what type of fees would I still have to pay?
  1. Application fee (RM250)
  2. Enrolment fee (RM800)
  3. Partial tuition fee for Taylor’s Research Scholarship recipient during the scholarship tenure. This will vary according to the quantum of scholarship awarded.             
Note: Scholarship recipients need to pay tuition fees and other relevant fees to the programme undertaken should they fail to graduate within the scholarship tenure.

Q8. If I am successful with my Taylor’s PhD Scholarship and/ASEAN Tourism Scholarship for PhD application and an international student, what type of fees do I have to pay?
  1. Application fee (RM250)
  2. International Enrolment fee (RM2,775)
  3. Partial tuition fee for Taylor’s Postgraduate Research Scholarship recipient during the scholarship tenure. This will vary according to the quantum of scholarship awarded.
  4. EMGS Student Visa Application fee (RM1,378)

  6. Personal Bond Deposit/Advanced Tuition Fees (varies based on the country of origin and will be advised by EAS – PG during the application stage)

Q10. Is there any bond of service for any of the scholarships offered in Q1?
No.

Q11. If my scholarships application was unsuccessful, what other financial aid option do I have?
You may apply for Graduate Research Assistantship subject to the availability of grants by your Principal Supervisor.
 
Q12. Is it possible for me to apply for more than one scholarship?
You may apply for more than one scholarship if you meet the eligibility criteria of each scholarship. 
However, only one scholarship will be offered subject to the decision of the approving committee and availability of the scholarship.

Q13. Is it possible for me to apply for admission to the university and a scholarship at the same time?
Yes, you may submit the admission form and scholarship application form at the same time.
However, scholarship application will be processed upon confirmation of admission into the Postgraduate Programmes (Research) that you have applied for.

Q14. Is it possible for me to apply for a scholarship if I hold a conditional offer?
No.
 
Q15. When should I submit my application to study at the University in order to allow sufficient time to apply for a scholarship?
At least one month prior to intake commencement for local students and three months prior to intake commencement for international students.
 
Q16. If I change my course of study will it affect my scholarship application?
If you change your course of study after you were being offered a scholarship, the scholarship awarded may become void.
