One of the key elements of university success in the first year is a positive transition experience which Taylor’s provides intentionally to ensure the students’ smooth adjustment into university life. This First Year Experience (FYE) support is carried via activities and timely provision of information to ensure students are familiar with the institution and their academic programme.
Participating in the Orientation programs is crucial so that first years are aware of the campus facilities and variety of student support services available for them. Students are encouraged to actively seek out these services and view them as opportunities to deepen their learning and skills.
Social integration is important to ensure students feel they belong to the campus community. Thus, buddies @ senior students meet first year students to have informal discussions about their learning experiences and to show them around.
First year students are encouraged to become actively involved in campus life and community activities. Students are introduced to various clubs and societies to harness opportunities to develop skills and make friends thereby helping them to adjust to tertiary life and navigate the challenges in their first year via their peer network.
With assistance from Student Success Centre (SSC), university “survival skills” are developed via a range of Study Skills and Personal Development workshops. These skills will make the students’ transition into University easier, and start them on the journey to a holistic learning experience; sculpting wholesome and skilled graduates. In addition to workshops, students can seek assistance from our PALS peer services and by 1-2-1 consultations with Student Success Advisers who are here to support students success!
