VORTEX (Virtual Online Future Technology and Extended Reality) is part of Taylor’s ongoing efforts to enhance virtual, interactive, and immersive learning in an extended reality environment. Through VORTEX, we identify and define teaching & learning needs, and function as an XR solution provider & Incubation Centre offering XR services, action (projects), advocacy, and research.
VORTEX XR Lab is a platform for students and academics to transform learning from 2D to a 360-degree immersive experience. This is made possible by extended reality technology (XR) which consists of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality.
VORTEX XR Lab guides schools and faculties to create immersive solutions, while providing the necessary hardware and training for content creation. Programmes and disciplines also can define their lessons and concepts in a virtual environment, redefining the scale in which the ideas and learning outcomes are viewed and experienced in first person.
VORTEX XR Lab presents the university’s initiative to venture into the metaverse with the goal of hosting a persistent learning environment in virtual reality. Collaborations with leading XR industry experts further strengthen the student’s experience, such as an MOU with Ministry XR for the Interactive Spatial Design degree.
Virtual and 3D-generated graphics, objects, or models are placed in the real world and seen through the viewscreen of a device.
A virtually created and rendered artificial environment that can be explored in 1:1 scale using a Virtual Reality headset device.
An experience which combines virtual reality with the real world without removing the wearable VR or AR device.
Based on Taylor’s vision for the future in Extended Reality Education and the educational metaverse, an XR lab has been set-up to facilitate all forms of immersive XR output. Immersive VR, AR and MR simulations will revolutionize the learning experience at all levels.
Based on Taylor’s vision for the future in Extended Reality Education and the educational metaverse, an XR lab has been set-up to facilitate all forms of immersive XR output. VORTEX XR Lab is positioned to be an industry-ready XR production suite capable of supporting as a platform for university educators and students to realise their final outcomes for their projects in immersive mode and virtual simulations in either three or six degrees of freedom.
Our state-of-the-art equipment offer the most current development hardware for virtual, mixed and augmented reality research.
The XROPE programme initiates the early steps of familiarising, interfacing, experiencing and understanding the immersive virtual world and the mixed reality world. This programme is part of the VORTEX introductory initiative as a form of inducting academics and students in exploring XR approaches in teaching and learning as well as exploring content creation and other related needs.
