The overall goal of the Banking specialisation is to enhance the efficiency of the students by generating high calibre and trustworthy bankers, efficiency standards with technical competence, risk taking and transparency, integrity and professionalism of good corporate governance within the banking industry.
This program consists of specialization modules which provide basic understanding and critical knowledge in financial services, develop skills and capabilities with technology, judgements and decision makings in important works circumstances.
This module provides the foundation of managing banks under the difficult economic environment. Managing a commercial bank is indeed a challenging task due to the rapid changes in regulatory, technology as well as competition. This module is to present the basic and application of management concepts and techniques required by potential managers to create stronger management team in commercial banks. Thus, this module helps potential successful bank managers with the ability to plan their long term future performance.
This module is designed to test candidate’s knowledge and understanding of the Futures and Options in Malaysia. Students will also learn about risk management and trading skills in hedging, speculation and arbitrage using derivatives.
This module is designed to test student’s knowledge and understanding of the rules and regulations governing the Malaysian futures and options market, the overall structure of the futures and options market and the Rules of Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Berhad. Students will develop the knowledge and understanding of how derivatives work, and the rules implied.
In an ever progressing and changing business environment, banks as a crucial transaction party need to make quick, well informed and right decisions. This module concentrates on the introduction of banking theories and principles. Framework of this module will give importance to expose learners with basic banking concepts and tools that are essential for them to understand and analyse the banking system. This module also provides details on the principles of money and banking. It outlines the Central Bank’s responsibilities and actions in managing the interest rates according to the economic cycle in order to stabilize the banking system. The analytical frameworks covered in this course will be essential for business students to learn and understand the behaviour of banks during inflation or recession.
In the changing economy Derivatives and Securities play a vital role for the development. This is a module that examines derivative such as Forward, Futures, Swaps, and Options as well as hedging, speculation and arbitrage strategy with these derivatives instruments. Topics will include derivative markets, trading strategies in derivative market, derivative pricing models and risk management with derivatives, standards for corporate governance and strengthened requirements for KLIBOR rate setting and introduced a Code of Conduct for the Malaysian Wholesale Financial Markets.
On completion of this module students should demonstrate an understanding of the Investment environment, theories involved, analyses adopted, valuation models, portfolio management and portfolio performance evaluation techniques. The course is a capstone module and, as such, draws on and integrates materials from earlier modules, as well as introducing new materials.
Islamic financial markets have made remarkable progress during the last two decades and this burgeoning growth has increased the appetite for financiers and bankers to understand more of this emerging market. This module is concerned with the helpful insights to students particularly on Islamic banks and financial institutions. The module outlines incorporate valuable examples and practical discussions that will offer better understanding of this emerging market. This module is an extension of finance and banking knowledge as well as crucial for comparative study in finance and banking practices.
Personal financial planning equips students with adequate financial knowledge and awareness to make sound financial decisions and ensure lifelong personal financial wealth. Students will be exposed to financial issues typically encountered by individuals in the future and strategies which can be used to resolve them effectively. Topics covered include cash flow and debt management, and planning relating to tax, investment, risk management & insurance, retirement and wealth distribution.
A graduate from this specialisation will have an exciting career across a range of banking and financial sectors, both in the private and public disciplines.
