Adele

Exchange Student from Germany, Bachelor of Business (Honours)

My name is Adele, and I am from Germany. I am originally a student at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, and I recently completed a semester abroad at Taylor’s University as part of the Bachelor of Business programme.

When I first started researching options for my exchange semester, I came across a positive experience report written by a student from my home university. That story sparked my interest, and after doing further research, I became particularly drawn to Malaysia’s cultural diversity. Coming from a relatively small university, I was also curious about what it would be like to study at a large, international campus with such a wide range of programmes, clubs, and societies.

From the moment I arrived, Taylor’s University exceeded my expectations. The campus felt modern, green, and well organised, with a welcoming atmosphere that immediately put me at ease. The lake at the centre of the campus quickly became one of my favourite features, and I was amazed by the variety of food options available, which made everyday campus life even more enjoyable.

Academically, I appreciated the structure of the classes, especially the small tutorial groups that accompanied lectures. These smaller sessions made it easier to ask questions, engage in discussions, and build closer connections with both lecturers and fellow students. One of the highlights of my academic experience was the guest lectures. A talk by the founder of Koppiku, for example, offered valuable insight into the realities of the business world and brought theory to life in a very practical way.

At first, I was slightly anxious about the number of group projects, as this was not something I was used to at my home university, and I barely knew anyone when I arrived. However, these projects quickly became one of the most rewarding parts of my exchange. Working in diverse teams allowed me to learn from different perspectives, understand cultural differences more deeply, and develop skills that I believe will be essential for my future professional life. In many ways, these group projects contributed the most to my personal growth.

What stood out to me throughout my time at Taylor’s was the friendliness of the people on campus. From the moment I asked for directions at the International Office, I felt genuinely welcomed. I met my first friends during orientation week, and with so many international students around, it was easy to start conversations and form connections. People were always open, approachable, and curious about one another.

One particularly memorable experience was being invited to participate in a photoshoot showcasing the work of a Taylor’s fashion student. It was a fun and creative collaboration, and it also gave me the chance to learn more about other fields of study and meet students from different disciplines.

The campus itself offered a great balance between focused study and lively social life. There were many quiet and comfortable spaces where I could concentrate, which I really appreciated. At the same time, there was always something happening, whether it was student band performances, clubs promoting their activities, or pop-up stalls around campus. This constant sense of activity made everyday life exciting. If I had to describe campus life at Taylor’s in one word, it would be vibrant.

Outside of university life, I made the most of Malaysia’s public holidays by travelling as much as possible. I visited the Cameron Highlands, Malacca, and Langkawi, and I was truly amazed by the country’s diversity. Having Kuala Lumpur so close meant there was always something new to explore. I especially loved the city’s food culture, from street food stalls to charming cafés. Kuala Lumpur at night, with its illuminated skyline, has a completely different and unforgettable atmosphere.

Of course, there were challenges as well. I had heard about the extreme weather changes and busy rush hours, but experiencing them firsthand was something else entirely. I was also surprised by the scale of shopping malls in Malaysia, which are far more than just places to shop and often feel like entire worlds of their own.

This exchange experience taught me how to adapt to a new academic environment, work effectively in diverse teams, and step outside my comfort zone. It made me more independent, open-minded, and appreciative of different cultures, especially Malaysia’s rich traditions, diversity, and incredible food culture.

There were moments when I felt lost or overwhelmed, such as one occasion when I could not find the correct bus stop and found myself standing at a crowded crossing, jet-lagged and struggling with the heat. However, what I learned is that Malaysians are incredibly kind and helpful. Before I could lose hope, two locals approached me, helped me find the right place, and even waited with me for the bus. The solution turned out to be as simple as standing beside a tree and waving to signal the driver to stop.

That moment stayed with me and taught me not to be afraid to ask for help.

Finally, I was very impressed by the support from Taylor’s staff throughout the application process. Responses were extremely quick, and the instructions provided were clear and detailed, which made the entire process smooth and reassuring.

Looking back, my exchange at Taylor’s University was everything I had hoped for and more. It challenged me, inspired me, and gave me memories and friendships that I will carry with me long after returning home.

I chose Taylor’s because of its innovative Technopreneurship pathway in Computer Science. I loved the idea of building a real tech startup as part of my final-year project — it’s not just theoretical learning, but a hands-on opportunity to transform ideas into a viable business before graduation. It’s a rare and exciting experience that bridges technology and entrepreneurship.

Life in Malaysia has been incredibly welcoming and full of cultural discovery. The diversity here makes it easy to adapt, and I’ve met people from all around the world. The local food, the warmth of the community, and the safe environment truly make it feel like a second home.

Honestly, the number of restaurants on campus really surprised me! Taylor’s must really love food — there are so many choices that it’s hard to decide where to eat. The campus becomes lively (and deliciously crowded) during meal times, adding to its vibrant and social atmosphere.

The lecturers at Taylor’s are exceptionally supportive and approachable. They genuinely care about your growth and are always open to helping with projects or ideas. Their guidance has been instrumental in keeping me motivated and confident throughout my studies.

What I enjoy most is seeing brilliant ideas take shape and collaborating with passionate minds. Working with other students who share the same drive for innovation is truly inspiring — it’s amazing to witness how teamwork can turn a simple concept into something impactful.

Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) Student

I chose Taylor’s because of its strong research focus and impressive QS ranking. As someone passionate about technology, I was drawn to how Taylor’s blends academic excellence with real-world innovation. The university offers countless opportunities to grow—both as a tech professional and as a learner—from research involvement to hands-on projects.

Life in Malaysia has been incredible. The diversity and cultural mix make it easy to adapt and feel at home. People here are warm and open-minded, and I’ve loved connecting with students from all backgrounds. It’s a truly vibrant environment that inspires learning and personal growth beyond the classroom.

What surprised me most is how much Taylor’s encourages students to explore opportunities beyond academics. From research and innovation challenges to collaborations with industry, there’s always something exciting happening. It’s inspiring to see how much support students receive to turn their ideas into reality.

The lecturers at Taylor’s, especially in the School of Computer Science, are incredibly supportive. They genuinely care about our growth—not just academically, but professionally too. Their guidance in research, publishing, and solving real-world problems has been invaluable to my development.

I also love how practical the programme is. We don’t just study theory—we apply what we learn through presentations, projects, and real-life applications. It’s rewarding to see how the skills we gain in class directly translate to the tech industry.
