Established in 2017, Taylor's University's Knowledge Transfer & Commercialisation Office (KTC) plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academia and industry. As the technology transfer office of the University, our mission is clear: to facilitate the seamless transfer of knowledge, cutting-edge technology, and valuable intellectual property to benefit both industry and society at large.

 

Our office takes on the crucial responsibility of overseeing and strategically managing Taylor's University's rich intellectual property portfolio. This portfolio encompasses a wide spectrum of assets, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and closely guarded trade secrets. By doing so, we not only protect and preserve the university's innovative creations but also work tirelessly to bring these innovations to the forefront of practical application.

Intellectual Property


Identify, safeguard, and commercialise intellectual property (IP) created by researchers and students at Taylor's University. Our services encompass patenting, licensing, commercialisation, IP searches, assessments, and valuations.

Technology Transfer

 

We facilitate the exchange of technology and knowledge between Taylor's University and industry partners, nurturing collaboration. Our services include identifying transfer opportunities, negotiating licensing and collaboration agreements, and assisting in joint research projects and industry partnerships.

Commercialisation 

 

We offer support and guidance to develop and commercialise innovative ideas and products. Our services encompass market research, product development, business planning, and access to funding opportunities. We collaborate closely with entrepreneurs, start-ups, and SMEs to help them achieve their commercialisation objectives.

Industry Partnership

We partner with industry leaders to pinpoint innovation prospects and streamline technology transfer. We offer internal innovation funding to jumpstart market-driven ideas, taking research from Technology Readiness Level 1 to Technology Readiness 6, advancing concepts towards pre-commercialisation.

What’s the timeline for the programme?

  • Phase 1: Capacity Building (June - July 2025)
    Participants will gain insights into commercialisation through topics like Market Analysis, Business Planning, and more.

  • Phase 2: Fund Pitching (4th Week of August)
    Pitch for funding up to RM 50,000.

  • Phase 3: Incubation (August 2025 Onwards)
    Participants will receive mentorship and advisory support from internal and external stakeholders, with opportunities to secure validation partnerships.

  • Phase 4: Demo Day (April 2026)
    Exhibition day where selected projects will showcase products/services and achievements to the public.
Who is eligible to join the programme?

Who is eligible to join the programme?

  • Open to academic staff, current post-graduate students (supervised by academic staff), and alumni.
  • Technology Readiness Level: Open to ideas from TRL 1 (ideation) and above with the potential for growth and scaling for commercialisation.
  • Focus Areas: Projects must be within the listed focus areas.
  • Commitment: Must be prepared to dedicate time to attend compulsory training/mentoring activities and driving productisation of solutions.

What can participants expect during the 'Capacity Building' phase?

What can participants expect during the 'Capacity Building' phase?

Participants will be exposed to commercialisation-focused content such as market analysis, business planning, fundraising, etc.

What does 'Fund Pitching' involve?

What does 'Fund Pitching' involve?

Participant will pitch their idea to a panel of judges consisting of internal stakeholders and industry partners. Selected participants will receive internal funds up to RM 50,000.

What takes place during the Incubation phase?

What takes place during the Incubation phase?

  • All participants will receive supports/assistance in the form of advisory and mentorship.
  • This support will come from internal and external sources such as private and government agencies, potential investors, among others.
  • This phase will also give stakeholders to identify and secure validation partnership to align with industry needs.

Demo Day is an exhibition day where selected projects will showcase their products/services and achievements to the public

  • The Capacity Building phase will run for one (1) month, with classes scheduled on Fridays and/or Saturdays.
  • Fund Pitching will take place 2 weeks from the end of Capacity Building phase.
  • The Incubation phase will run through for 12 months.
  • Demo Day is a one day event.

Participants will have to sign a Terms of Commitment, requiring their active participation in the programme, including attending scheduled workshops, mentorship sessions, progress check-ins, and driving the advancement of their respective innovations.

Our official industry partners and mentors will sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to ensure confidentiality and protect your ideas throughout the accelerator programme.

Additionally, participants will receive guidance on intellectual property protection to safeguard their innovations.
