Overview
 

The main purpose of the strategic management & entrepreneurship key research are is to deal with the creation, growth, transformation and performance of the organization and industries in order to compete in the global market. The main topics of research in this area include family business, small, medium  and enterprises competitive advantages, international business and strategy, strategic management, entrepreneurialism, ideation and startup, the industry revolution, infrastructure and technology change, product innovation and ecosystem, employee mobility, joint venture, merger, acquisition and alliances.

Overview
 

The principal aim is to develop a world class centre for research on human capital and economic development, with a particular focus on ASEAN economies. Projects are exploring human capital in the region, as well as related labour market issues such as skills utilisation and employability, with EU-ASEAN comparative projects. A second theme concerns performance, including the development of HPWS (high performance work systems) and the respective roles of competence, motivation and work organization. A third emerging area will address the agenda of ILO Decent Work Campaign and HR Sans Frontiers concerning labour standards.

Overview
 

The main objective of this research group is to develop a coherent body of research on financial markets, banking and corporate finance with a special focus on comparative economic and governance development. Broadly speaking, ongoing research explores the impact of successive economic crises on Malaysian and other financial markets, and corporate sectors that impede progress towards a better economic performance. Another general research area concerns access to microfinance and its role in enterprise development, particularly social enterprises and start-ups. Our experts also investigate more specific research themes as listed hereafter.

 

  • Financial literacy and financial inclusion in emerging countries. Experts involved in this area also study the role of culture and the importance of gender diversity in financial development.
  • Behavioural Economics and its applications. This theme deals with the role of heuristics in price cognition and the psycho-sociological biases that might affect reading behaviours in Malaysia.
  • Financial Technology (FinTech) and all potential changes that this revolution might bring for the banking, insurance and financial industry. This theme mainly deals with new concepts such as blockchains, crypto-currencies, smart-contracts and digital finance.

The main objective of this group is to contribute significantly to the body of knowledge in the areas related to operations, supply chain and logistics. The contribution will be in four major areas: (1) addressing issues pertinent to global supply chains with specific emphasis to the ASEAN region; (2) addressing issues critical to manufacturing and service operations with special attention to SMEs; (3) developing and testing frameworks and models pertinent to supply chain and logistics; and (4) including sustainability as a key component in all relevant areas of research.

The Centre for Research in Law and Development in Asia serves as a major platform for high quality research, policy and legal analysis within the fields of public and private law. The Centre focusses on the interaction between private law subjects including Contract, Tort, Unjust Enrichment, Equity and Trusts, Company Law, Competition Law, Taxation, Banking and Finance Law and Intellectual Property. The second area of study encompasses a comprehensive examination of the role of law within the contemporary healthcare environment. The regime of laws related to Human Rights and Fundamental liberties is the third area of research. In the process of extensive research on core areas of law, an emerging area of research focusses on improving legal education and research techniques to enhance teaching & learning of law in Asia.

The main topics of research in this area include digital marketing and traditional marketing, viral marketing and customer awareness, data science and business analytics, search engine marketing strategy, machine learning and artificial intelligence, text analytics and pattern recognition, online advertising, behavioural sciences, services marketing, online consumer behaviour and online value proposition, hospitality and digital healthcare services, online financial services and digital marketing strategies.

The occurrence of financial crimes has led to the realisation that the root of widespread accounting scandals is lack of accountability and good governance practice. This research group aims to develop a comprehensive body of knowledge to provide answers and solutions to the current phenomena. Ongoing research investigate impacts of governance on accounting sub-disciplines, including auditing, earnings management, taxation and strategic management accounting. The research focus also spans corporate social responsibilities in its attempt to provide solutions to real-world problems that challenge the national and global societal well-being. This research group extends its collaboration to external local and international scholars, and industries to ensure high-quality and impactful research.
