As the early morning sun shines down, many are still groggy from being woken up from their sweet dreams. But that’s not the case for these Techstars Startup Weekend participants. Quite a few teams spend most of the night after the introductory briefing preparing their ideas into feasible business plans.
The 2nd day of the 54-hour weekend event started off at 9.00am with all the participants checking-in to go through a quick briefing on what will unfold throughout the day. After all the participants understood what would be the goal to be achieved for the day would be, they are all sent off to continue with their progress of working on their business case. With everyone rearing to go, the host/emcee together with the organizing crew prepared behind the scenes to get the Mentors ready for a heavy work-load evening.
One of the most exciting events on the agenda of the day were the Private Mentorship sessions. Each group were assigned the Mentor that they picked. BizPod and Taylor’s University Student Council were able to secure a spectrum of commendable and certainly successful entrepreneurs, where most of them have their own incredible startup businesses. Just a few to note, Sze Jun King (CTO for Vincaps Capital Sdn Bhd), Nick Tan (Director, Qlic Solution Sdn Bhd), Dato Jason Foo (Founder & Executive Chairman of 81Group), Raimi Aizat (Portfolio Manager,Cradle Fund) and many more!
Each team had a total of two private sessions with their mentors. During their sessions, they are able to discuss in detail with their mentors and use this opportunity to gain all the knowledge that they could muster from the experienced entrepreneurs or industry experts. The mentors’ role during these sessions would large be involved in providing guidance, advise them the various ways of experimenting and analyzing data and most importantly, they will help ensure that none of the teams are putting assumptions into their business case.
It was indeed a fruitful evening through the whole Saturday. All the teams had more clarity in their direction and goals; learned to be more focused in prioritizing as well as a renewed passion towards realizing their vision. After many hours of squeezing their brains in perfecting their business cases, the later part of the evening featured a more interesting and refreshing session. Jessie Chong, the Director of BizPod, delivered a casual session with the “Dynamic Pitching Workshop”. It was a timely and crucial workshop to prepare all the teams for their final presentation and pitch to a panel of judges who will be reviewing their final business case based on their initial idea. As the evening died down after the workshop, the fire in each of the teams were still burning strong. Fierce discussions ensued in each of their Discord rooms.
Ideas kept getting better and every one of their ideas are getting one step closer in becoming reality. But which team’s unique and original business idea will surpass the others and emerge victorious at the end of this 54-hour weekend event?
