Marking your attendance is now quick, easy, and paperless — thanks to the Classroom Attendance Marking System (CAMS). Whether you’re using the Taylor’s Mobile App or the Campus Central Portal, your attendance is automatically recorded and synced to your student profile. This helps reduce admin work for your lecturers and keeps your records up to date in real time.

Getting Started
When to Mark Attendance
A Note on Integrity

To use CAMS, make sure you have:

  • Taylor’s Mobile App: Download it from the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android).
  • Alternatively, you may also use the Campus Central Portal to mark your attendance if you are facing issues with your Taylor’s Mobile app.
  • A stable internet connection: A steady connection is needed to mark your attendance successfully.

CAMS is only active during the official scheduled class times listed in your student timetable. You can only check in during this window — not before or after. Once the session ends, the system will automatically close, and if your attendance hasn’t been marked, you will be recorded as absent for that class.

If you happen to miss marking your attendance due to a valid reason (e.g. technical issues, emergencies, or arriving late), don’t panic. Your lecturer has the authority to update your attendance manually, but this is subject to their discretion and will usually require supporting evidence or an explanation.

To avoid issues, always check your class schedule and ensure you're logged in on time. If you need assistance or clarification, be proactive and speak to your lecturer as soon as possible.

Do not attempt to mark attendance on behalf of someone else, use unauthorised methods, or manipulate the system in any way. This includes actions such as sharing your login credentials, spoofing your location, or asking others to check in for you.

Such behaviour not only violates the University's code of conduct but also undermines the fairness and integrity of our learning environment. Any misuse of the Classroom Attendance Marking System (CAMS) will be taken seriously and may lead to disciplinary action, which can include formal warnings, suspension, or other penalties as outlined in the student disciplinary policy.

Taylor’s University is committed to maintaining a culture of honesty and accountability — and we expect all students to do the same.

If you’re unable to attend class due to illness, personal matters, or other valid reasons, you can submit a leave application through the student portal. Make sure to include the necessary details, such as the date, reason, and any supporting documents (e.g. medical certificate).

Your lecturer or faculty will review the request, and you’ll be notified once it’s approved or rejected. Remember to apply as soon as possible to avoid any issues with your attendance record.

Attendance Policy Overview

Planned Leave
For upcoming events such as official university activities, important family occasions, legal appointments, or religious observances. Apply in advance with the necessary documentation.

Unplanned Leave
For absences on the current day or past dates due to medical issues, urgent personal matters, bereavement (immediate family), or other unexpected situations. Justification and supporting documents may be required.

1

Submit Your Application via Campus Central Portal
Complete the online leave application form with accurate details.

2

Upload Supporting Documents
Attach any required documents—such as a medical certificate, official letters, or a note from your parent or guardian—to support your application.

3

Follow the Submission Timeline

  • For planned leave: Submit at least 3 working days in advance.
  • For unplanned leave: Submit within 3 working days after the missed class.

4

Wait for Lecturer Review
Your lecturer will review your request. If it’s rejected and you believe it’s unfair, contact your Programme Director for advice on next steps, which may include submitting a new application.

5

Check Your Attendance Status
Once your case is marked as ‘Case Closed’, your attendance record will be updated. For future absences, the approved leave will usually be reflected one day after the missed class.

Note: For any leave longer than 2 weeks, you’ll need to apply for deferment of study instead.

All students' leave applications are reviewed and approved by the respective module lecturer. Once submitted, your application will typically be processed within three (3) working days. During this time, the lecturer will assess your request and the supporting documents provided.

To check the status of your application—whether it has been approved, rejected, or is still under review—you can log in to the Campus Central Portal and visit the Request History page. Notifications are not sent via email or SMS, so it's important to regularly monitor your application status through this link.

If your application is rejected and you believe the decision was unfair, you are encouraged to contact your Programme Director for further clarification or guidance on next steps.

Students are required to maintain a minimum of 80% attendance in all scheduled classes. For online or blended modules, attendance is tracked based on the completion of online activities as outlined in the module syllabus and instructed by the module leader.

Your overall attendance percentage is calculated as follows:

Total % of attendance across all modules ÷ Total number of modules

What Happens If You Fall Below the Required Attendance

What Happens If You Fall Below the Required Attendance

  • Impact on Grades: Absences may negatively impact your academic performance, especially in modules where class participation is essential and contributes to your final grade.
  • Warning and Intervention: If your attendance drops below 90%, a warning letter will be sent to your Taylor’s email. In certain cases, your Programme Director may arrange a meeting with you to discuss and address the issue.
Important for International Students

Important for International Students

International students must maintain at least 80% attendance, in accordance with the regulations set by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

  • Students who are absent without a valid reason and unreachable for three (3) consecutive days will be reported to the International Office (IO) for follow-up.
  • Students who are unreachable for fourteen (14) consecutive days without valid reason will be reported to the police, Immigration Department, and relevant foreign embassy, which may lead to the revocation of your Student Pass and Visa.

Poor attendance may also affect your eligibility to renew your Student Pass, i-KAD, or medical insurance.
