Malaysian Compulsory and General Studies Modules

In line with the directive from Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), all private universities including Taylor’s have adopted the Mata Pelajaran Pengajian Umum (MPU), or General Studies Modules, to replace the previous Mata Pelajaran Wajib (MPW) starting 1 September 2013.

These compulsory modules are a graduation requirement for all diploma and bachelor’s degree students. For students in foundation programmes (including the American Degree Transfer Programme), MPU is also offered to those who choose to further their studies abroad without continuing into a degree at Taylor’s.

At Taylor’s University, we’ve designed our MPU to go beyond the basics. By integrating our university core modules into the MPU, we embed the values of Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities (TGC), ensuring that our students receive a well-rounded and future-ready education that:

CONDITIONS FOR EXEMPTIONS

There are 4 categories of MPU modules. Students are required to take all the MPU modules listed under U1 and one module each from U2, U3 and U4.

Note: Malaysian students without a credit in SPM Bahasa Melayu are required to take Bahasa Kebangsaan A under the U2 category. Students who have previously completed and passed MPW 1113 Bahasa Kebangsaan A during their Pre-U, Foundation, or Diploma studies are exempted from this requirement. However, they must substitute it with another U2 module to meet graduation requirements. Credit exemptions will not be granted if MQA compulsory modules form part of the total programme credits required for graduation. Students are required to take elective modules to fulfil graduating credits.
Malaysian students who are exempted from MQA Bahasa Kebangsaan A at entry level (with a credit in SPM Bahasa Melayu or principal pass in STPM Bahasa Malaysia) are required to replace the credits with other modules if the MQA Bahasa Kebangsaan A forms part of the total programme credits required for graduation.
For international students, credit exemptions for MQA compulsory modules are not allowed if it forms part of the total programme credits required for graduation. International students are required to register for MQA compulsory modules or other elective modules to fulfil the total programme credits required for graduation.
