Driven by a passion for culinary adventure and talent, a small committee was collectively formed by Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) and the first Culinaire Malaysia was held in 1993. Since then, Culinaire Malaysia has experienced steady growth to become a prestigious culinary competition throughout ASEAN.

Today, in addition to ASEAN competitors, contenders come all the way from Europe and Middle East just to showcase their skills and gain international recognition. The gastronomy world today has evolved to greater heights from ten years ago with new trends, techniques, and presentations that has elevated and transformed into a higher level of sophistication. We're proud to inform that Culinaire Malaysia has been setting the benchmark higher with each new chapter of the competition. Culinaire Malaysia is also dubbed the “Malaysian Battle of the Chefs” and is set to attract over 1,500 entries with an assemblage of more than 1,000 culinary professionals along with an audience of approximately 35,000 throughout the event days.

Taylor’s University School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events (SHTE) aim for this competition is to bring back the glory of winning and challenging ourselves as being the leader in the hospitality school in Asia. The school selected students from their second & final year of the Bachelor of Hospitality (BIHM) & Diploma in Culinary (DC) and 4 trainers to represent Taylor’s University in this Food & Hotel Malaysia (FHM) Culinary Competition 2022 — the culinary competitions that we've continuously participated since FHM 2001.

"It was a surprise as well as a delightful competition experience for me. Unfortunately, a week before the competition, I was infected with the COVID-19 virus and I was almost got pulled out from the competition. That made me feel very down and depressed because I’d been training and preparing for over a month. If I was pulled out it’d mean all my preparation would be in vain.

However, thank God, two days before the competition, I tested negative and was able to join the competition again. On the competition day, I was nervous, had no appetite for breakfast and my hands were cold and trembling. After I have done my mocktail performance, I felt so relieved. Once I knew that I got a gold medal, I was so happy and quickly shared the information with my friends and family. In my experience, although the training was hard and tiring, the result was worth it. I’d like to thank my trainer, Mr. Tengku Murad, and my friends for supporting and motivating me during my training."

"The overall experience was amazing — from going to campus by train every day to D-day competing. As much as I wanted to win gold, the process was even more enjoyable. I got to know my fellow competition-mates and, at the competition itself, I also got to know a bunch of industry people, which allowed me to expends my connection. At the end of the day, that was all that mattered — getting to do what I love and having fun at the same time."

"I’m Kang Hayoung from Korea. Since I was interested in food and beverage a long time ago, I entered Taylor's University. Thankfully, at the recommendation of my professors, I applied for the mixology cocktail section in the 2022 Culinaire competition in Malaysia. Honestly, I was very nervous at the beginning because I’d never experience competing in a big contest such as this, but thanks to the encouragement and support of professors and seniors, I was very grateful that I was able to achieve a good result — the bronze medal. Next time, I want to try harder and win a gold medal."

"My name is Ye Cheng and I’m a 2nd year student studying Bachelor of International Hospitality Management. I participated in the Culinaire Malaysia 2022 in March and it was definitely a great experience! It was a fantastic opportunity for students to experience a professional barista competition and, in return, gain valuable knowledge from other competitors, professionals, and judges. In my opinion, participating in this kind of competition is a great way to challenge your limits, as well as a great chance to broaden your horizon. I’m lucky to have this chance and I’m glad that I grabbed this opportunity."
