With a Degree in Architecture, you’re opening an array of different career pathways beyond solely designing and sketching buildings.
Whether you’re indoors or outdoors, there are many visible ways an architect leaves an impact on society through the work that they do. However, one of the biggest and most common misconceptions about working within the architecture field is that you’ll be solely designing and sketching buildings.
In actuality, there’s more than one way you can leave an impact when you graduate with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Architecture. Here are 4 career opportunities you could consider based on your interest after graduation.
Consider a role as an Architectural Photographer or a Building Inspector.
There are a lot of detail that go into building different structures whether it’s the creative or technical side of things. Feel up to a good challenge as you find solutions for difficult situations? While you explore the role of a building inspector, be prepared to come up with good solutions for difficult situations revolving around the structural soundness of buildings and construction projects according to the set guidelines.
Prefer working on the creative side of things? Exploring the role of an architectural photographer would allow you to capture the beauty of the building while focusing on the context, whether it’s the relation with the users, surroundings, or even the intricate detail of the building, based on your architectural knowledge.
Both roles would require you to practise your communication skills as you’ll be meeting with clients whether it’s to ensure the safety of buildings or capture different projects. Adding to this, you’ll also be able to increase your knowledge and understanding of different sectors within the field.

Ready to live out your Rollercoaster Tycoon, Hotel Tycoon, or even The Sims dreams? A role as a theme park, town planning, and even resort or hotel space designer may be suitable for you. While this role does allow you to go into something more unique as you potentially plan a whole town or theme park, you would need a lot of attention to detail and be extra creative in coming up with designs and solutions to these challenges.
While you explore this potential career pathway, take note that this role would require a lot of experience and might be slower moving than other sectors within the industry. Having a headstart in the industry through an internship could help with this. Disneyland, here I come!

A role as a 3D Visualiser may be for you.
Constantly looking up the latest gadgets and tools out in the market? In this role, you’ll need the knowledge of different technological tools so that you can work side-by-side with different designers to bring ideas to life by producing 3D images or animations of proposed buildings and developments.
Aside from being up-to-date with the latest technology, you’d also need to be organised and be able to manage tight deadlines as you work on different projects and clients. Another key characteristic is to have a good eye for detail to spot any potential issues through the 3D design.
Consider a role as an Architectural Restorer or a Researcher.
Buildings are more than just a shelter over our head, it also showcases who we are as a people. But as time goes by, so do the things around us. As an Architectural Restorer, you’d specialise in the preservation and conservation of historic buildings and monuments to prevent further deterioration through alteration and restoration.
When exploring this role, remember to consider the things that you’re interested in.
