The Taylor's Team (Editor)
As an institution where purpose-driven education takes centre stage, Taylor’s comprehensive and holistic learning ecosystem Taylor’sphere empowers students to graduate with a clear sense of purpose. Built upon three essential intelligences, Taylor'sphere is an educational journey that acknowledges the paramount importance of intellect and the power of practical experience to connect students with real-world opportunities and effect positive change.
At the heart of this comprehensive learning ecosystem, Taylor's students are provided with the opportunity to actively engage with their communities. Through a diverse array of community projects, students don't merely study the concept of making a positive impact; instead, they actively get involved, taking concrete steps to enhance the well-being of those in their vicinity. This practical approach equips them to put their gained knowledge and skills to practical use in tackling real-world challenges, thereby generating a lasting influence that extends well beyond the confines of the traditional classroom setting.
CAREbinet by The Risers stands as a notable endeavour. Taylor's College at the helm, this project collaborates with various partners, including the creative hub Mereka, which contributed their expertise in cabinet construction, as well as FMCG organisations like Adabi Consumer Industries, Gardenia Bakeries KL, Jasmine Food Corporation, Kotex Malaysia, and Unilever Malaysia. These partners are actively restocking the cabinets with essential items such as bread, deodorant, hand soap, instant beverages, rice, sanitary pads, shampoo, and soup paste, ensuring that students in need have uninterrupted access to these essential supplies.
According to Josephine Tan, Campus Director of Taylor’s College, the initiative was born in response to the rising cost of essential goods, which affected many families. “We recognised this predicament’s potential impact on students’ motivation and ability to advance in their education in school and committed RM200,000 to support families by creating a more equitable access to academic excellence. This is the right avenue for our students at Taylor’s to be involved in real world issues and make a difference in the community. Together with our partners, this initiative supports the country’s nation-building agenda for education accessibility and sustainability practices, ensuring an inclusive future for the students,” she continued.
Throughout the year, the project will distribute 4200 to 7000 units of supplies to 14 schools, averaging 300 to 500 units per school per month from all five partner sponsors. The impact has been profound, with increased attendance rates ranging from 73% to 96% monthly and food relief for students who may not have access to meals during recess.
CAREbinet by The Risers goes beyond distributing cabinets and providing essential supplies; it is about fostering kindness and community involvement. Apart from the involvement by Taylor’s students, the initiative held talks in participating schools that showcases the success stories of other schools and how the students can start their own initiatives in their own schools with their own peers, led by school counsellors and ‘Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya’ students, who serve as role models.
Jasmine Food Corporation (JFC) a leading producer and distributor of rice in Malaysia, plays an essential role in CAREbinet by The Risers. Farhan Hafetz, Marketing Director of JFC expressed commitment to the initiative and said, “We believe in the power of education and the role it plays in nurturing the nation’s future leaders. This initiative allows students to instil in them a heart for underserved communities, and it genuinely helps families through consistent supply of quality essential goods from all partners of CAREbinet by The Risers.”
He added, “It is not enough for us to do this alone, and but together with Taylor’s College and the other partners, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of students and their families. I hope that the reach of this initiative can be expanded to touch more lives and that more organisations will join hands as we all play a crucial role in moulding the next generation.”
In 2024, Taylor’s College aims to broaden its outreach to schools in the Selangor district, inviting additional organizations to participate in this initiative. The underlying belief is that every student should have access to quality education and a nurturing community. For more information, please visit Taylor’sphere.
