Taylor's University recently had the honour of hosting a distinguished delegation from the Ministry of Education, Seychelles. This visit marks a significant milestone in fostering international academic collaborations and enhancing educational opportunities for both institutions.

A Testament to Global Partnerships

The event commenced with the arrival of the delegation, led by John Thomas Lesperance, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Seychelles. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Professor Barry Winn, Vice Chancellor and President of Taylor's University, and Professor Dr Ong Kian Ming, Pro Vice-Chancellor of External Engagement. Professor Barry presented Taylor’s University's achievements, academic excellence, and substantial contributions to global education. This introduction set the stage for a day dedicated to strengthening the academic and cultural bonds between Taylor's University and Seychelles.

 

The delegation from Seychelles also included Francoise Lisette Mein, Director General of the Ministry of Education Seychelles, and Flavienne Arzine Dogley, Scholarship Administrator. They were accompanied by Kabilan Muniandy, Honorary Consul of Seychelles in Malaysia, and Gobinath Nadarajan, PA to Honorary Consul of Seychelles in Malaysia.

Engaging Academic Leaders

Following the introductory session, a meeting was held with key academic leaders from Taylor's University to explore potential avenues for research partnerships and collaborative projects. Attendees included Associate Professor Dr Eugene Pek Chuen Khee, Head of School for School of Management and Marketing; Professor Dr P.T. Thomas, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences; Professor Dr David Asirvatham, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Innovation & Technology; Professor Dr Neethiahnanthan Ari Ragavan, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences & Leisure Management. The discussions during this session were productive and focused on identifying mutual interests and opportunities for collaborative research, faculty exchange programmes, and joint academic initiatives.

Building Stronger Ties

The visit also featured a ceremonial group photo session, symbolising the mutual respect and the strengthening relationship between the two parties. This was followed by a pivotal meeting with Seychelles students currently studying at Taylor's University. This informal gathering allowed the delegates to engage directly with the students over refreshments, fostering a sense of community and support. The interaction provided valuable insights into the students’ experiences and aspirations, highlighting the impact of international education on their personal and professional growth.
