Taylor’s University, in collaboration with Banting Hospital, successfully organised the Neonatal Update 2025 seminar at Taylor’s Lakeside Campus, uniting more than 150 healthcare professionals from across Malaysia for a full day of academic exchange and clinical insight into neonatal care.

Themed ‘Caring Hearts for Tiny Hands’, the event was designed to empower medical officers, nurses, and healthcare practitioners with the latest evidence-based knowledge and best practices to improve outcomes for newborns. By creating a space where knowledge and experience intersect, the seminar underscored Malaysia’s growing commitment to advancing neonatal healthcare as a national priority.

Advancing Neonatal Healthcare in Malaysia

Neonatal healthcare continues to be one of the most critical areas in Malaysia’s medical landscape. Timely diagnosis, skilled intervention, and up-to-date practices often determine whether newborns survive and thrive. The seminar highlighted how continuous training and exposure to the latest advancements in neonatal medicine are essential to equip healthcare professionals with the skills to respond effectively to complex cases in neonatal intensive care units.

The programme featured an esteemed line-up of experts from Taylor’s University and public hospitals, including neonatologists, paediatric surgeons, and endocrinologists. They delivered in-depth sessions on pressing issues such as cyanosis in newborns, pulmonary hypertension in resource-limited settings, ventilator-induced lung injury, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, neonatal nutrition, surgical emergencies, and ambiguous genitalia. Each presentation combined cutting-edge research with personal clinical experiences, offering participants a holistic perspective that was both academically enriching and practically applicable.

The response from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Participants described the seminar as highly useful, relevant, and informative, praising its organisation and content as directly beneficial to their professional practice. Many remarked that this was the best course they had attended in recent years and strongly encouraged the organisers to make it a recurring annual event. The conducive learning environment at Taylor’s Lakeside Campus further elevated the experience, with several participants commending the venue as an excellent setting for professional development.

Beyond its immediate impact on participants, the event showcased the value of strong public–private partnerships in strengthening Malaysia’s healthcare education ecosystem. The collaboration between Taylor’s University and Banting Hospital demonstrated how pooling expertise and resources can create platforms that enhance professional practice, foster innovation, and ultimately improve patient care. Such collaborations not only address the pressing needs of the present but also build sustainable capacity for the future.

Looking ahead, Taylor’s University and Banting Hospital are committed to sustaining the momentum of this initiative. Plans are already underway for the Neonatal–Paediatric Update 2026, positioning it as a flagship annual event in Malaysia’s medical education calendar. In addition, both institutions are preparing to embark on a community project in an Orang Asli Village in Banting, extending the benefits of neonatal and paediatric healthcare education beyond the academic sphere to underserved communities.
