Taylor’s University recently welcomed delegates from the Ministry of Tourism, Seychelles, as part of a strategic initiative to foster international collaboration in education and professional training. This high-level engagement underscores Taylor’s commitment to global partnerships and its position as a leading institution in hospitality, tourism, and events education.

Advancing Hospitality and Tourism Education

Led by Ms Jenifer Sinon, Director General for Human Resources and Administration; Ms Diana Quatre, Director for Industry Human Resources Development; and Mrs Mavreen Matombe, Senior Officer for Human Resources Development, the delegation engaged in discussions with Taylor’s University leadership to explore opportunities for collaboration. Also present were delegates from the Consul of Seychelles in Malaysia, Mr Kabilan Muniandy and Mr Gobinath Nadarajan. The key areas of focus included the development of a bespoke training programme for Seychelles’ Ministry of Tourism staff and potential sponsorship opportunities for Seychellois students to pursue their studies at Taylor’s University.

 

With a distinguished reputation in hospitality and tourism education, Taylor’s University continues to lead industry-driven academic excellence. The visit served as a platform to align Seychelles’ industry needs with Taylor’s globally recognised programmes and training initiatives, fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening industry-academic collaboration.

A Day of Engagement and Knowledge Sharing

The official meeting was chaired by Professor Barry Winn, Vice-Chancellor and President of Taylor’s University, alongside senior leadership representatives from the Faculty of Social Sciences & Leisure Management and the School of Hospitality, Tourism, and Events (SHTE).

 

Professor Barry Winn delivered the corporate presentation, providing an overview of Taylor’s Education Group, its growth, and Taylor’s University’s recognitions and achievements. Following this, Professor Dr Neethiahnanthan Ari Ragavan, Executive Dean, and Dr. Kandappan, Head of School, presented an overview of SHTE’s vision and strengths, highlighting the faculty’s commitment to equipping students with cutting-edge knowledge and practical skills to meet the evolving demands of the global tourism and hospitality industry.

A showcase of major projects and research initiatives within the hospitality, tourism, and events sectors provided further insight into the university’s commitment to innovation, industry collaboration, and sustainability. Recognised among the world’s top 20 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, SHTE continues to set benchmarks in academic excellence and industry relevance.

 

Additionally, postgraduate programmes were introduced, offering insights into their contributions to industry advancements and professional development for Seychelles’ tourism workforce. Discussions explored how these programmes align with the ministry’s objectives and how they could serve as a foundation for future academic-industry partnerships.

The delegates also had the opportunity to engage with Taylor’s students, gaining first-hand insights into their learning experiences and industry exposure. This session, coordinated by the SHTE Programme Directors, facilitated knowledge-sharing between students and industry professionals, reinforcing the real-world applicability of Taylor’s academic programmes.

Paving the Way for Future Collaboration

This visit marks a significant step towards a mutually beneficial partnership between Taylor’s University and the Ministry of Tourism, Seychelles. By leveraging the expertise and industry networks of the Faculty of Social Sciences & Leisure Management and the School of Hospitality, Tourism, and Events (SHTE), both parties aim to create impactful educational opportunities that contribute to the professional development of Seychelles’ tourism workforce and empower future industry leaders.
