The Centre for Counselling Services (CCS) offers a range of provisions and support to students with special needs.We offer on-going advice and support from the application stage through to graduation.

 

We can support and assist the student on a range of issues including: physical access, examination arrangements and additional learning support and etc. We determine and implement accommodation via the Student with Special Needs Access Plan.

 

CCS welcomes enquiries from students who may have any of the following special needs or impairments, as indicated in the Students with Special Needs Policy in recognition of the person’s with Disabilities Act 2008.

Learning Difficulties

We’re here to support students with learning differences such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Our goal is to ensure every student can thrive in their academic journey with confidence.

Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger’s Syndrome, or other developmental conditions will find a supportive community and services designed to meet your individual learning styles and strengths.

If you’re joining us as an underage student—below 18 for university, we provide extra care and guidance to help you adjust and feel safe and supported throughout your experience.

Financial Assistance (OKU Allowance)​ 


It is offered by Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and eligible for Malaysian students with special needs who are pursuing diploma programme and above. Student must be registered with the Social Welfare Department (Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat-JKM) and have their OKU card. 

At Taylor’s, we’re committed to supporting every student’s success. To ensure we can provide the right support from the beginning, we kindly ask that:

  • Prospective students disclose any special needs in their application form. This helps us prepare the appropriate support and make necessary arrangements early on. You can find more details on the Campus Central Portal.
  • Students provide relevant documentation from a recognised psychologist, psychiatrist, or medical specialist to support their request for accommodations or assistance.
  • Students actively collaborate with the Centre for Counselling Services (CCS) team to discuss their Disability Access Plan and address any learning or accessibility challenges throughout their studies.
  • Students communicate with their Faculty or School to explore how learning accommodations can be applied to their specific course of study.

The CCS team works closely with other university departments to ensure students with special needs receive the support they need. Accommodations may include (but are not limited to):

  • Academic Accommodations
    Adjustments to teaching methods, learning materials, or classroom participation.

  • Exam Accommodations
    Support during assessments such as extra time, rest breaks, or alternative formats.

  • Facility Accommodations
    Access to physical spaces and facilities designed to support mobility, sensory, or other needs.

Taylor’s University places significant emphasis on being inclusive by providing adequate disability access all over campus. Wheelchair ramps are built at many areas on campus not only to smoothen the logistics of those who have limited mobility, but also to enhance their morale and self-esteem.

Most lecture theatres, classrooms, computer labs, science labs offers step-free access. There are also designated spaces for wheelchair users within the lecture theatre(s). If there is a need to go on stage, wheelchair ramp is also available at certain lecture theatres as well as The Grand Hall for Graduation or other events.

Recognising the importance of prayer performing among Muslims, Taylor’s prepares accessible prayer rooms for Muslims to perform their daily prayer. The ablution area in the prayer room is modified to enable wheelchair users to comfortably perform their ablution ritual before prayer.

Yes, we strongly encourage you to disclose your needs as early as possible. This allows our Education Counsellors to connect you with the Centre for Counselling Services (CCS), which supports students with special needs. The CCS team will assess your requirements and work with your school or faculty to implement reasonable adjustments to support you throughout your academic journey. The earlier you reach out, the sooner we can put the right support in place for you.

What kind of support or ‘reasonable adjustments’ can the university provide?

The support we provide will be based on your individual needs. This may include adjustments such as extended time for assignments or exams, flexible timetables, use of assistive devices like walking aids, or other academic and facility accommodations. Rest assured, a dedicated counsellor will meet with you to understand your circumstances and recommend suitable support measures.

Do I need to submit documents to verify my condition or special need?

Yes. In accordance with our Student with Special Needs Policy, we require official documentation from a qualified specialist—such as a psychologist, psychiatrist, or medical doctor—to verify your condition or needs. The report should be no more than 6 months old and must be submitted to the Head of the Centre for Counselling Services (CCS). If your report is older, you may be asked to provide an updated one.
