PPE is a broader and more flexible programme that combines three fields—politics, philosophy, and economics—so students learn to understand the world from different angles and think critically across disciplines. International Relations, on the other hand, is more focused on global issues like diplomacy, conflict, and international cooperation. If you're interested in a wider range of topics and want to explore how society works as a whole, PPE might be for you. If you're more interested in global affairs and how countries interact, IR could be a better fit.
The higher entry requirements reflect the unique nature of the PPE programme, which brings together three different ways of thinking—quantitative skills from economics, critical thinking from philosophy, and an understanding of real-world contexts from politics. It’s a rigorous but rewarding programme designed for students who are curious, adaptable, and ready to think across disciplines. While it’s challenging, students will receive strong academic support and be part of a learning environment that helps them grow in confidence and capability.
The PPE interview isn’t about testing how much a student already knows, but rather how they think. Interviewers are more interested in how students approach a question, reason through their ideas, and communicate their thoughts. If a student isn’t familiar with a topic, the interviewer may rephrase the question or offer a different one. Students are also given time to think before answering, so there's no pressure to respond immediately. Being open-minded, curious, and willing to engage in thoughtful discussion is the best way to prepare.
Students will have multiple opportunities to engage with the Industry Advisory Panel throughout their time in the programme. Panel members may invite students to participate in real-world projects, collaborations, or industry ventures when opportunities arise. They may also be invited as guest speakers for relevant modules, providing students with valuable insights and direct exposure to industry practices. These engagements are designed to enrich the student learning experience and build meaningful connections with the professional world.
While PPE originated in the UK, the structure and content of the programme are global in nature—one of the key reasons for its international popularity. At Taylor’s, students will explore both ASEAN and global contexts across politics, philosophy, and economics. This broad perspective ensures that the theoretical frameworks and practical skills gained are relevant and adaptable, allowing students to apply what they’ve learned effectively in Malaysia or in their respective home countries.
The PPE programme is best suited for self-driven, intellectually curious students who thrive in a discussion-based and analytical learning environment. It appeals to those who enjoy exploring complex ideas, questioning assumptions, and engaging in evidence-based debate. Students who are comfortable working with abstract concepts and are interested in understanding the deeper forces shaping politics, economics, and society will find the programme especially rewarding. Above all, a strong desire to learn, think critically, and adapt to new perspectives is key to succeeding in this interdisciplinary field.
PPE graduates are valued for their ability to think critically, solve problems, and communicate effectively—skills that are in demand across many industries. Graduates can explore careers in consulting, public policy, finance, NGOs, research, journalism, education, and more. The flexibility of the degree also allows students to pursue postgraduate studies in any of the three fields—or in areas like law, business, or international relations.
Yes. PPE is designed for students from diverse academic backgrounds. All three disciplines—politics, philosophy, and economics—are introduced from the basics, so there’s no need to have prior knowledge in any of them. What matters most is your willingness to learn and think critically.
