TERMS & CONDITIONS

Students interested in pursuing their Master’s / PhD’s studies at Taylor’s University in any of our postgraduate research programmes may apply for the Postgraduate Scholarship.

 

This award is offered to support research in all areas of studies in the University and to instill excellent values amongst postgraduate students academically and socially.

 

Award recipients are expected to devote their efforts to research and publishing articles as well as participating in University events and activities and getting engaged in various non-academic activities like community activism, charity work or educational services.

Scheme A Plus - PhD

Scheme A Plus - PhD

For Doctoral Programmes in Science, Medical Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Engineering & Computer Science Only.

 

Entitlement

  • 100% tuition fee waiver for a maximum of 36 months (full-time study)
  • Monthly stipend of RM 3,200 for a maximum of 36 months​
  • Conference allowance up to RM 3,000

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Minimum CGPA of 3.50; AND
  • Master’s Degree (Coursework/Mixed mode): Minimum CGPA 3.50​ from any recognised institution; OR Master’s Degree (Research mode) from any recognised institution
  • Applicants with publication in Citation Indexed Journal (CIJ) will have an added advantage

 

Minimum Publication Requirement

  • Two (2) articles accepted in Scopus and/or​ Clarivate Indexed Journals before graduation.

 

Contribution

  • All Scheme A Plus recipients are required to fulfil his/her allocation of a 6-hour weekly workload under the purview of the Head of School or Executive Dean.

Entitlement 

Up to 50% tuition fee waiver for a:

  • Maximum of 24 months (Master’s) – 36 months (PhD) for full-time study; and
  • Maximum of 36 months (Master’s) – 48 months (PhD) for part-time study

Applicable to:

  • Industry professionals (non-academic profession) attached to organisations/ firms in service related to the field of study
  • Academics who are attached to an educational institution

 

Note: Potential candidates require recommendation from their organisation / firm / institution

  • Candidate must meet the admission requirements (academic and English language proficiency) for the relevant research degree.

ASEAN Tourism Scholarship is open for application by nationals from ASEAN member countries, to pursue postgraduate research studies (Master’s / PhD on areas related/ relevant on ASEAN tourism. The research focus should be aligned to the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan (ATSP) priorities.

The scholarship application will be accepted throughout the year. However, there are deadlines for admission and scholarship application submissions.

 

If a student wishes to enroll into a programme prior to the approval of scholarship, the student requires to bear the fees for that particular semester. International students will need to take into consideration of visa application processing time of 8-12 weeks before intake commencement date.

Step 1

  • The shortlisted candidates are required to deliver a 15 minutes Power Point Presentation on the research proposal submitted to the Centre for Higher Degrees by Research (CHDR).  
  • This will be followed by Q&A by a Panel of Evaluators. The Scholarship Evaluation criterion include the following:
    • Academic Excellence
    • Quality of Research Proposal
    • Communication, Interpersonal and Leadership Potential
  • A panel involving the Senior Management of the Faculty evaluates the application, CV, and supporting documents.  

 

 

Step 2

  • The Interview session conducted by a Panel of Evaluators on weekdays 9:00am-5:00pm Malaysian time.

 

 

Step 3

  • The candidates are notified on the outcome of the scholarship application via email by CHDR as per the timeline stipulated in Q3.

 

Step 4

  • If awarded, the scholarship recipient should return the signed scholarship award letter (acknowledgement and acceptance part) to CHDR within five (5) days from the date of notification via email (chdr@taylors.edu.my).

You may apply for Graduate Research Assistantship subject to the availability of grants by your Principal Supervisor.

You may apply for more than one scholarship if you meet the eligibility criteria of each scholarship. However, only one scholarship will be offered subject to the decision of the approving committee and availability of the scholarship.

If you change your course of study after you were being offered a scholarship, the scholarship awarded will become void. You need to apply and go through the process again for the new programme applied.

  1. Scholarships and bursaries listed are applicable for 2025 intakes only and are subject to availability on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  2. Scholarships and selected bursaries are applicable for all Malaysian or International students that hold academic results from any accredited institution in Malaysia and Malaysians from selected overseas institutions with selected qualifications. Clarification on accepted results may be obtained from the Scholarships Management through the student’s appointed Counsellor.
  3. Scholarship application can only be made once for the particular level of study, at any one time and must be made at the point of enrolment. Late application or re-application will not be entertained.
  4. All 2025 scholarships and bursaries are subject to the following eligibility criteria:
    i.    Studies conducted at Taylor’s University, Malaysia only;
    ii.   Registered students at Taylor’s University;
    iii.  The programme and intake offered as stated in the Letter of Offer only; and
    iv.  Does not include a period of study at overseas partner institutions including student exchange, except where fee is payable to Taylor’s University (where applicable).
  5. All scholarships are only applicable for students progressing to a higher qualification from the current highest achieved qualification commencing from semester 1 without any credit transfer (except for transfers from Diploma/Advanced Diploma to Degree). Clarification on exceptions may be obtained from the Scholarships Management through the student’s appointed Counsellor.
  6. Applicants are only allowed to use actual results to apply for the scholarship, but the scholarship is conditional upon meeting the minimum course entry requirements or the conditions attached to the letter of offer.
  7. Applicants must be certain of their preferred intake and/or programme during the point of scholarship and bursary application. Should applicants defer or change to a different programme and/or intake of the same year or different year during the processing period, the application will be voided.
  8. Taylor’s University reserves the right to rescind the offer if documents contain false information. This includes applications without required attachments.
  9. Applicants are required to apply for the scholarship before the application deadlines. Any late or incomplete application will not be accepted. No appeals will be entertained.
  10. Scholarship and bursary application deadlines may be revised at the sole discretion of Taylor’s University without prior notice. Scholarship application deadlines can be found on the Taylor’s University website.
  11. The scholarships and bursaries are applicable to the programme and intake granted. Any changes to the intake and/or programme of study that result in the modification of programme title and/or duration of studies and/or intake commencement will result in immediate termination of the scholarship/bursary. For special consideration, the recipient shall correspond in writing immediately with the Scholarships Management to notify of the circumstance. Any approval for exceptions or special considerations is at the absolute discretion of the Scholarships Management and is not guaranteed. Where changes are made without prior approval, Taylor’s University reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship/bursary, and the recipient will be required to repay the total scholarship/bursary amount disbursed to him/her in full. All decisions made by Taylor’s University are final and no further appeals shall be entertained.
  12. Recipients are expected to provide any document(s) as requested by the Scholarships Management at any given time within the stipulated deadline communicated to facilitate any requirements deemed necessary by Taylor’s University. Failure to do so will result in the scholarship/bursary being revoked and the recipient to repay the scholarship/bursary amount disbursed to date in full.
  13. Recipients shall join the academic course at the given start date, failure to do so will result in immediate termination of the scholarship/bursary.
  14. The scholarship/bursary is a fee waiver; it is not exchangeable for cash, is non-transferable and non-refundable and the manner in which the awarded amount is disbursed will be decided by the Scholarships Management. Any requests to amend the quantum disbursement will not be entertained.
  15. The scholarship/bursary only covers the tuition fees and for avoidance of doubt does not cover fees such as the International Student Annual Fee, EMGS Visa Application Fee, International Student Charge, Hospitalisation and Surgical Insurance Fee, EMGS Renewal Fee or any other Visa-related Fee.
  16. The scholarship/bursary only covers subjects enrolled for the first time (first attempt) in the letter of offer. Retake of module or repeat of subject will not be covered by the scholarship/bursary.
  17. All fees should be paid by the stipulated deadline, refusal to do so either when awaiting the scholarship/bursary outcome announcement and/or throughout the duration of study will be subjected to terms of the institution policy which includes and is not limited to barring from classes and may result in the scholarship/bursary application being disqualified or scholarship/bursary being terminated and full fees being charged to the applicant/recipient.
  18. Recipients are entitled to one (1) type of scholarship/bursary/award/waiver/discount at any one time including sponsorships from other external institutions/bodies. Recipients shall inform the Scholarships Management of any other scholarships or sponsorship currently held or awarded at a later date. For scholarship and bursary recipients, this disbursement will cease in the event recipients accept any external scholarship.  The one with the highest quantum will automatically apply.
  19. If the scholarship offer is not accepted by the given deadline in the letter of offer, it will be automatically withdrawn and voided. No appeals will be entertained.
  20. By accepting this offer, recipients understand and accept the responsibility of being an exemplary student ambassador for Taylor’s University. Recipients must recognise that his/her behaviour and general conduct must, at all times, be above reproach and comply with all existing rules, regulations, requirements and policies of Taylor’s University.  Recipients should not be involved, engaged in, or participate in any political, illegal or unlawful activity as a recipient of the scholarship whether within or outside the University premises. Failure to comply will result in immediate termination of scholarship and possible suspension in line with Institution policy.
  21. Recipients agree to act in an ambassadorial capacity, to provide student profiles or testimonials, interviews, advertisements, photographs, or any other publicity-related activities if requested, and to attend scholarship or recruitment events as required for Taylor’s University.
  22. Recipients are required to maintain satisfactory academic results as outlined by the minimum CGPA/score/grades specified in their scholarship offer letter throughout the standard programme duration. Failure to do so may result in the termination of the scholarship by Taylor’s University at the discretion of the Scholarship Management, taking into consideration due process as per the Scholarship policy. 
  23. By accepting this award, recipients are expected to join the Scholar’s Club and attend any Scholar’s Club activities/events organised by the Scholarships Management and Scholar’s Committee during the duration of their scholarship, attendance is a requirement under this scholarship.
  24. Upon accepting this scholarship/bursary, recipients are deemed to have accepted all terms and conditions stipulated here.
  25. Recipients also agree to indemnify and hold Taylor’s University harmless of and from any and all demands, claims, liabilities or actions of any kind whatsoever during their period of study at Taylor’s University.
  26. In the event the recipient withdraws from the programme, is suspended or terminated by Taylor’s University at any point of time before the completion of the programme, the scholarship/bursary shall be automatically terminated. However, should the recipient withdraw from the programme due to medical reasons, his/her scholarship/bursary may be retained, subject to the absolute discretion of the Scholarships Management.
  27. Taylor’s University will be entitled to terminate the scholarship/bursary at any time, by immediate notice to the recipient in writing, in the event of:
    i.    misconduct, whether in connection with his/her study or otherwise;
    ii.    failure to make such progress in his/her study as is considered satisfactory;
    iii.   circumstances, such as illness, arising which, with the university’s agreement, would render it impossible for the recipient to complete his/her scholarship/bursary satisfactorily or prevent
           the purpose of the scholarship/bursary from being fulfilled;
    iv.    dismissal, for any reason, from the recipient’s host university (if on student exchange programme);
    v.     breach of any local Malaysian law and practices;
    vi.    conviction of bribery, in line with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act, the current scholarship/bursary will be rescinded, and the recipient will be banned from applying for any Taylor’s
            financial aid and discounts for a period of up to five years;
    vii.   failure to comply with the conditions of his/her visa (if international student); and
    viii.  the discovery that the recipient has submitted fraudulent documentation.
  28. In the event of such termination, Taylor’s University shall have no further obligation to the recipient, and the recipient shall be bound to repay the amount that has been paid/waived to him/her under the scholarship/bursary, unless:
    i.    the termination is a result of his/her ill health and this has been certified by a registered medical practitioner; and
    ii.   Taylor’s University has exercised its discretion to exempt the recipient from this condition.
  29. Any breach of the scholarship/bursary condition(s) is treated seriously and if the recipient believes to have breached a condition whether intentionally or unintentionally, the recipient should contact the Scholarships Management immediately to discuss the situation. Recipients are urged to take prompt action to resolve any misunderstanding that may arise as a result of the breach, accidental or otherwise.

    i.    processing of scholarship/bursary application, collection of feedback, communicate details of events, academic programmes and marketing information, and for any other purposes as
          required by Taylor’s University; and
    ii.   periodical audit by Taylor’s University with regards to any information provided should the scholarship/bursary be administered, which includes and is not limited to grade reviews, semester

Requirements

  • The applicant and one of the parent are of Bumiputera descent and Malaysian citizen.
  • Age requirement:
    • Master: Not over 40 years old
    • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD): Not over 45 years old
  • Academic Qualification:
    • Master: Obtained a recognized Bachelor's Degree by Malaysian Government with CGPA minimum 3.00 or equivalent.
    • Doctor of Philosphy (PhD): Obtained a recognized Master's Degree qualification by Malaysian Government with CGPA minimum 3.50 or equivalent. 
  • Applicants who do not meet the CGPA requirements as stated can be consider with minimum three (3) years related field working experience.
  • Have a remaining period of study of at least 1 year for Masters level studies and 2 years for Doctoral level studies Philosophy.

 

Field of Study:

  • The loan is applicable for ANY Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy field of study as long as it is a full-time.

Its aim is to aid the social and economic development of Malaysians by enabling bright but needy students to receive undergraduate education at local Public OR Private Higher Learning Institutions and Training Institutes in the country on a full-time basis.
