The SHINE Award is an award winning programme that recognises students’ achievements in acquiring and applying Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities (TGCs), giving them the advantage to be future-ready.

 

It is complemented with self-directed and self-paced learning where they get to choose to participate in co-curricular activities (SHINE Experiential Activities) that are meaningful to them, based on 5 themes which are impactful social responsibility, cultural appreciation and adaptation, teamwork and collaboration, relationship building and networking and personal achievements.

 

There are 3 types of SHINE Awards which students can aim for: SHINE Platinum Award, SHINE Gold Award and SHINE Silver Award.

The SHINE Award Programme is meant to help you achieve your personal and professional development goals. Based on the 5 themes above, any active SHINE students will expose themselves through a myriad of opportunities that would contribute to their holistic development, making them more future ready and highly employable.

This programme is open to all who have completed the U2: Life Skills for Success and Well-Being and U3:Millennials in Malaysia: Team Dynamics and Relationship Management modules as a pre-requisite. The programme is crafted to recognise graduates’ achievement in acquiring and applying holistic capabilities (Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities) which gives them the advantage to be future-ready.

Impactful Social Responsibility

Ability to be empathetic, understand the feelings of others, interact positively with them and foster stable and harmonious relationships through community outreaches.

Teamwork and Collaboration

Ability to inspire and guide individuals, and to work with others towards a shared goal while recognising and appreciate individual and group similarities and differences.

Relationship Building and Networking

Ability to see the world as interconnected, seek to understand an individual’s, a society’s or a culture’s place in it and practice humility though a global experience.

The SHINE Award is an award winning programme that recognises your achievements in acquiring and applying holistic capabilities (Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities (TGCs)) which gives you the advantage to be future-ready. It is complemented with self-directed and self-paced learning where you get to choose to participate in extra-curricular activities (SHINE Experiential Activities) that are meaningful to you. There are 3 types of SHINE Awards, the highest level being the SHINE Platinum Award, followed by the SHINE Gold Award and SHINE Silver Award.

The SHINE Award helps in enhancing your employability where employers can make an informed decision during hiring. You will be able to showcase your TGCs and your extra effort to develop your graduate capabilities through the SHINE Experiential Activities and your contribution to society. 

How Do I Obtain A Shine Award?

How Do I Obtain A Shine Award?

The SHINE Award is integrated into the curriculum and is awarded based on 2 Levels:

 

  • 1st Level (Programme Learning Outcome (PLO) Score): PLO Score is given once you have been assessed for your TGCs in the curriculum (academic modules).Using the PLO Score as a baseline, you can upgrade to a higher tier SHINE Award if you fulfil the criteria at the 2nd Level.
  • 2nd Level (Accumulation of SHINE Points and Upgrade Criteria)

 

 

SHINE Points are given when you complete a role recognised in the SHINE Experiential Activities Listing as it recognises your extra efforts to strengthen your TGCs and make a positive contribution to society through activities focusing on 4 main themes and 1 optional theme:

 

  • Impactful Social Responsibility
  • Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Relationship Building and Networking
  • Cultural Appreciation and Adaptation
  • Personal Achievements (optional)

 

Accumulated SHINE Points and fulfilment of criteria can be used to upgrade to the next tier of SHINE Award using the PLO Attainment as a baseline. All approved activities will also be recorded in the Graduate Capabilities Attainment Transcript.

What Is The Graduate Capability Attainment Transcript (G-CAT)?

The G-CAT provides evidence of your achievements in acquiring and applying TGCs through the Programme Learning Outcomes (PLOs) attainment and SHINE Experiential Activities. The PLOs attainment indicates your achievements of the TGCs that have been embedded in the curriculum through PLOs, and are assessed in the respective modules. The SHINE Experiential Activities Listing recognises your extra effort to strengthen the TGCs and make positive contribution to society through SHINE Experiential activities.

Student Union, 60 Clubs and Societies at Taylor’s, External Organisations, Faith Communities, Charity Communities, Project Management, Event Management, Team Building and Expedition, Competition (Sports, Business Challenge, Talent Showcase etc.)

 

 

Impactful Social Responsibility

Volunteering with NGOs, Faith Communities, Charity Communities, Community Service projects, tutoring the underprivileged community etc., Community Project Management, Community Event Management, Spirituality and Faith Initiatives, Advocacy and Rights Initiatives, Peer Support, Peer Assisted Learning, PODz, Global Volunteering etc.

 

 

Relationship Building and Networking

Career readiness activities, implementation of networking map during internship, Personal Brand via LinkedIn, career mentoring, career coaching, part time employment, entrepreneurship, career passport etc.

When Can I Start Accumulating Shine Points?

You can start accumulating SHINE Points when you have completed your roles in the approved SHINE Experiential Activities followed by your learning reflection. For more information on activities available and to sign up for roles,  do log in to the portal: shineaward.taylors.edu.my

How Will The Shine Points Be Awarded? Based On What Criteria?

The SHINE Points is awarded only for active roles (i.e. hands on active participation) based on a matrix focusing on Role, Duration of commitment, Prestige, Achievement and Location. Upon completion of the role, you will be required to submit a learning reflection with guided questions. SHINE Points will be awarded upon reflection submission and approval.

What Is A Reflection Submission?

A reflection submission is required following a completion of an active role in order for each student to be rewarded with the allocated SHINE points. Writing reflections will help in your learning experience where you will be able to demonstrate your key learning points of growth and validate your experience through artefacts and evidence submission. Reflections also help you to understand the significance of your experiences.

What Is The Format of A Reflection Submission?

A reflection submission is based on a set of guided questions that would narrate your personal experiences along with personal ideas, opinions and even feelings about the activities that you have organised or helped to organise and the skills that you have learned from it. In the reflection, you must be able to demonstrate that you have used 1 or more of the 8 TGCs.

Reflections are submitted through the SHINE Portal. All you have to do is log in, and submit your participation for a role you carried out with relevant evidences and artefacts and complete the reflection submission.

You would need to submit your goals, Networking Map, and Personal Development Plan in Week 8, during the Professional Development week of your final year.

Once you have withdrawn, you will not be able to capture your SHINE Journey/Points. You are encouraged to submit all your reflections within the set timeline, before you choose to withdraw.
