With Taylor’s Student Exchange Programme, you can do just that. Through our partnerships with over 200 leading universities worldwide, you have the opportunity to spend one semester overseas while continuing to pay your usual Taylor’s tuition fees.

Important Notes

  • Students are not allowed to participate in the Student Exchange Programme during their final semester, except for those enrolled in the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) programme. You must have at least one semester left to complete upon your return.
  • If you are in your final year, please consult your Programme Director to determine if an exchange is suitable, especially if your programme includes internship, work-based learning, or a final year project.
  • You are strongly discouraged from joining a student exchange programme and subsequently pursuing a transfer programme, as time constraints may arise. Additionally, the credits earned may not be recognised by the receiving university.
Step 3: Understand Credit Transfer

Step 3: Understand Credit Transfer

You are responsible for maintaining the required credit load at the host university to ensure a successful credit transfer to your home programme. Credits will only be transferred if the modules are passed with at least a grade C or a minimum mark of 50%, depending on the grading system used by the host institution. Any failed modules or credits that are not approved for transfer must be retaken at Taylor’s University upon your return. This may result in additional tuition fees and could potentially extend your study duration.

Please note that the credits earned during your student exchange will not be included in the calculation of your Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Instead, for each module registered at Taylor’s University during your exchange semester, your transcript will reflect a grade of P (Pass) or F (Fail). The actual grades received from the host institution will not appear on your Taylor’s academic transcript.

Step 4: Explore Your Options

Step 4: Explore Your Options

Research is essential to making an informed decision about your choice of host university. You are encouraged to explore and compare institutions to find the best fit for your academic needs and personal goals. Be sure to check each university’s academic and language requirements, academic calendar, cost of living, accommodation options, and other relevant details before applying. Taking the time to prepare will help ensure a smoother and more rewarding exchange experience.

Step 5: Start Budgeting Early

Step 5: Start Budgeting Early

As a student exchange participant, you will be responsible for covering your own travel, accommodation, visa, insurance, and daily living expenses. While you will continue paying tuition fees to Taylor’s University, additional costs may vary depending on your chosen host country and institution. It’s important to discuss your plans with your parents or guardians before applying to ensure everyone is prepared for the financial commitment.

As places in the Student Exchange Programme are limited, the selection process is competitive and conducted in two stages. Students must first submit an internal application to Taylor’s University—details are provided below. Shortlisted candidates will then proceed to apply to the host institution. Your place in the programme will only be confirmed once you receive official acceptance from the host institution.

Applications must be submitted to the Global Mobility Office two (2) long semesters before your intended exchange semester. This timeline ensures there is sufficient time to evaluate your application and support your preparations. If you are a Diploma student progressing into a degree programme, you are encouraged to apply during the final semester of your diploma studies.

Applications for the Student Exchange Programme can only be submitted during the official application period. The opening and closing dates will be announced on the Campus Central portal from time to time. Stage 1: Selection and Outcome
Stage 2: Nomination to Host Institution
Stage 3: Notification from Host Institution
Stage 4: Student Exchange Learning Agreement (SELA)
Stage 5: Preparing for Your Exchange

You will be notified within two (2) weeks after the application deadline regarding the outcome of your application. If pre-selected, you will be informed of the university allocated to you along with guidance on the next steps.

If you are not pre-selected for any of your chosen universities, you will have the opportunity to participate in a second application round. In this round, you may select three new universities from the remaining available options.

Once you have been pre-selected, we will inform the host institution that you are our nominated student for the exchange programme. Since each host institution has its own nomination timeline, this step may take one to two months following your Stage 1 outcome.

You will receive email instructions from the host institution on how to complete your application with them. Each university has its own procedures and deadlines. Please make sure you follow their application process carefully, ensuring that all deadlines are met. Failure to do so may result in your application being declined. Do let us know via email once you have completed your host institution application.

After your host institution receives your application and has completed their assessment of your application, they will send you an official acceptance letter. Do note that it may take a while for these host institutions to get back to you. Please be patient and continue to keep a lookout for further communication from them.

A learning agreement is a formal document that outlines the modules you intend to take during your exchange at the host institution. It serves to ensure that the credits earned abroad will be recognised by your home university.

At Taylor’s, this agreement is known as the Student Exchange Learning Agreement (SELA). It must be completed, approved by your Programme Director, and submitted to the Global Mobility Office at least one month before your departure to the host institution.

Before you embark on your student exchange programme, there are several important tasks that you will need to complete:

Pre-Departure Briefing Session

Your Safety Abroad

As you begin your exchange experience, please remember to stay in touch with the Global Mobility Office throughout your time abroad. You may receive important updates or action items that require your attention, so it's essential to check your Taylor’s email account regularly. We recommend doing so at least once a week to ensure you stay informed and up to date.

If there are any changes to the approved modules listed in your Student Exchange Learning Agreement (SELA), you must inform the Global Mobility Office immediately.

It is important that you:

  • Notify us as soon as changes occur, so we can advise you on the necessary next steps.
  • Ensure your total academic workload remains equivalent in credits to what was originally approved in your SELA.

Maintaining the approved credit load is essential for proper credit transfer and meeting your academic requirements. Any unauthorised or delayed changes may impact your eligibility for credit recognition.

Sometimes things may not go as planned—and that’s perfectly okay. Stay calm and don’t panic. Support is available both at your host institution and here at Taylor’s.

Your first point of contact should be the Mobility Team at your host institution, as they are best equipped to assist you promptly and are familiar with local procedures and resources. That said, you can always reach out to us at Taylor’s—we’re here to provide remote support and guidance whenever needed.

No matter where you are, remember this: you’re not alone—help is always within reach.

While you’re on exchange, you’re not just a student—you’re also a representative of Taylor’s University. Your actions, both in and outside the classroom, reflect on the University and the values we uphold.

We encourage you to be a positive ambassador by:

  • Acting with respect, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity
  • Engaging actively with your host institution and local community
  • Upholding the values and reputation of Taylor’s University

This is a meaningful opportunity to build connections, share your story, and leave a lasting impression. Be proud of where you come from—and let others see the best of Taylor’s through you.

During your exchange, stay vigilant of your surroundings, follow local laws and customs, and keep emergency contact details handy. Register with local authorities if required and keep us informed of any serious incidents. In case of emergency, contact your host institution’s support services first, and then reach out to us for additional assistance.

Academic Transcript from Host Institution
Share Your Experience

Upon completion of your student exchange, you will receive an academic transcript from your host institution. Please ensure you submit a copy to the Global Mobility Office within three (3) working days upon receipt from the host institution. This is essential for us to begin processing your credit transfer in a timely manner. Delays in submitting your transcript may impact your academic progression, so it is important to act promptly once you receive it.

Following your memorable and life changing experience, we encourage you to share your journey with others by submitting testimonials, photos and/or videos via a feedback survey from us. We also encourage you to work with us to help future exchange students by becoming our Exchange Alumni Mentors.

For more information on the Student Exchange Programme, you may consult our Student Exchange Outbound Coordinator at the Global Mobility Office, Block A, Level 2. To book an appointment, please submit an enquiry form via the Campus Central Portal.
