Confirmation of Your Admission

Once you’ve successfully submitted all the required documents and completed the payment via Flywire, Taylor’s University will process your application and issue your Letter of Acceptance (LOA). The LOA package serves as an official confirmation that you’ve been offered a place in your chosen programme. This document is essential for the next steps in your journey, including:

  • Applying for your Visa Approval Letter (VAL)
  • Preparing for travel arrangements
  • Confirming accommodation bookings (if applicable)

The LOA package will be sent to your registered email address and/or your designated agent (if you are applying through one). Please ensure that your contact details are accurate and up to date.

If you do not receive your LOA within a reasonable time after submission and payment, you may follow up with the International Student Recruitment (ISR) team at: internationaladmission@taylors.edu.my

Before you can begin your studies at Taylor’s University, you must obtain an electronic Visa Approval Letter (VAL) and a Student Pass—both required for international students studying in Malaysia. Here’s how the process works and what you need to prepare.

Electronic Visa Approval Letter (eVAL) Application

Electronic Visa Approval Letter (eVAL) Application

The Visa Approval Letter (eVAL) is your official permit to enter Malaysia for the purpose of studying. Once you’ve submitted all the required documents and your application has been accepted, Taylor’s University will apply for your eVAL through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS).

What You Need to Know:

  • The eVAL application process takes approximately six (6) to eight (8) weeks.
  • Make sure your passport is valid for at least eighteen (18) months from the date of application.
  • EMGS will review your documents and submit them to the Immigration Department of Malaysia for approval.
  • When your eVAL is approved, Taylor’s will notify you and send you a copy of the official document.

You can also track the progress of your application using the EMGS Hub App in which you are required to download, register your details, before you can access or track your eVAL application progress.

Single-Entry Visa (SEV) – If Applicable

Single-Entry Visa (SEV) – If Applicable

If you’re from a country that requires you to enter Malaysia with a Single-Entry Visa (SEV), you must obtain it before travelling to Malaysia. To do so, submit your eVAL and passport to the Malaysian Embassy or Consulate to initiate the application. Please state the reason as 'pursuing studies at Taylor's' in the application. This step is crucial to ensure you are granted entry into Malaysia for the purpose of study and to avoid any fines or being denied access upon arrival.

You can check if your country requires an SEV by referring to the list provided by EMGS. In some countries, you may also be eligible to apply for an eVISA instead of a SEV. In the event that you are required to enter Malaysia with an SEV or eVISA, yet there is no visa application facility back in your country, you will need to apply for Visa On Arrival for Foreign Students (VOAS).

We recommend contacting the Malaysian Embassy or Consulate in your home country to confirm the available options.

Student Pass Endorsement (After Arrival in Malaysia)

Student Pass Endorsement (After Arrival in Malaysia)

The Student Pass allows you to legally reside and study in Malaysia throughout your programme. Unlike the eVAL and SEV, which are obtained before entering Malaysia, the Student Pass is endorsed after your arrival.

Here’s What to Expect:

Post-Arrival Medical Screening

The International Office will help you arrange a medical screening, as required by Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS).

Submission for Student Pass

After you’ve completed and passed the screening, your passport and medical report will be submitted to EMGS to process your Student Pass.

Student Pass Endorsement

Once approved, your Student Pass will be endorsed in your passport.

Processing Time

This process typically takes about fourteen (14) working days. However, during peak intake periods (August to mid-October), it may take up to forty-five (45) working days.

Note: Please avoid making any travel plans until you have received your passport back.

If Your Application Is Unsuccessful

If Your Application Is Unsuccessful

In the unfortunate event that your student pass application is rejected, we will notify you promptly via email. If this happens, our International Office team will advise you on the next steps or possible reapplication options.

Dependent Pass / Diplomatic Pass / Employment Pass / Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Visa

Dependent Pass / Diplomatic Pass / Employment Pass / Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Visa

If you are currently holding a Dependent Pass, Diplomatic Pass, Employment Pass, or a Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Visa, you must obtain an official 'Permission to Study' endorsement from the Malaysian Immigration Department before beginning your studies.

The principal pass holder (e.g., your parent or guardian) is responsible for applying for this endorsement on your behalf.

Once you reach the age of eighteen (18), you will be required to convert your Dependent Pass or MM2H Visa to a Student Pass in order to continue your studies legally in Malaysia. For more information on visa types, immigration regulations, and related penalties, please click here.

Bring one set of bed linen, including a bedsheet and pillowcase, for your accommodation.

Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)

Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)

All new international students must complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) at least three (3) days before your travel date. You can apply online via the MDAC portal.

You will need to present proof of this submission upon arrival at immigration.

Your arrival in Malaysia marks the beginning of your exciting journey at Taylor’s University. To ensure a smooth entry, follow the steps below carefully—especially during immigration clearance and your transition to campus.

Immigration Clearance

Immigration Clearance

As a Taylor’s University student, you are allowed to complete your own immigration clearance upon arrival at the airport.

Upon arrival in Malaysia, proceed to meet with the ISAC (International Student Arrival Centre) EMGS officers who are stationed at the airport. They will assist in checking that your documents are in order and guide you through the correct procedures. Once your documents are reviewed, you may proceed to the immigration counters for clearance.

For Arrivals at:

  • Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA): Proceed to Immigration Counters No. 59 & 60
  • KLIA2 or Skypark Subang Terminal: You may proceed to any available immigration counter

Note: Do not use the auto-gate system at immigration. You must go through manual clearance.

Documents to Present at Immigration

Documents to Present at Immigration

When you arrive at the immigration counter, be prepared to show the original versions of the following documents. These are necessary to verify your student status and grant you legal entry into Malaysia.

1.

Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)

This is an online pre-arrival declaration required by Malaysian Immigration. You must submit it at least three (3) days before your travel date. A printed or digital copy of your MDAC confirmation must be presented to the immigration officer.

2.

Single-Entry Visa (SEV) or eVISA / VOA (Visa on Arrival) if applicable

If your nationality requires a visa to enter Malaysia, your SEV (endorsed in your passport) or eVISA must be shown at immigration. This document confirms that you’ve been authorised to enter Malaysia for study purposes. If you are required to enter Malaysia with a visa but you are unable to obtain SEV or eVISA, please remember to apply for VOA.

3.

eVisa Approval Letter (eVAL)

This is an official letter issued by Immigration Malaysia, confirming that you’ve been approved to study in Malaysia. Keep the original VAL with you at all times. Do not leave it with the immigration officer or place it in your checked baggage.

4.

Letter of Offer (LOO) from Taylor’s University

This is your official admission letter from Taylor’s, stating the programme you’ve been accepted into. Immigration officers may request it as part of verifying your student status.

Important Note: Check Your Entry Stamp

Before leaving the counter, make sure the immigration officer stamps your passport with a thirty day (30) Special Entry Pass. This pass is critical—it allows you to remain in Malaysia while your Student Pass endorsement is under process.

If the pass is not issued correctly, or if the duration is shorter than 30 days, ask the officer to correct it immediately before you exit the immigration area.

Customs Clearance (Optional)

Customs Clearance (Optional)

After collecting your luggage, proceed to customs inspection. Declare any dutiable or restricted items according to Malaysian customs regulations. Avoid bringing prohibited items such as alcohol, tobacco products, or large amounts of undeclared cash.

Welcome to Malaysia! As a new international student at Taylor’s University, there are a few important steps you need to take after arrival to help you settle in smoothly—both for immigration purposes and your personal wellbeing. Please read the following carefully and follow the required procedures within the stipulated time.

International Student Reporting

International Student Reporting

All new international students are required to report to the International Office on the next working day after arriving in Malaysia.

Location: International Office, Block A, Level 2, Lakeside Campus unless otherwise stated.

During this reporting session, you will receive important guidance on your next steps, including your post-arrival medical check-up, student pass processing, and tips for settling into campus life smoothly.

Post-Arrival Medical Screening

Post-Arrival Medical Screening

As part of your journey to becoming an international student in Malaysia, you’ll need to complete a post-arrival medical screening at a clinic approved by Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). This is a standard requirement to help ensure your well-being and support your student visa process.

Once completed, you will need to submit the following to the International Office Consultancy Counter (IOCC) at Block A, Level 2 for student pass endorsement:

  • Original passport
  • Medical screening slip
  • eVAL (eVisa Approval Letter)
  • SEV / eVISA (if applicable)
  • Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)
  • Visa On Arrival (VOA) (if applicable)

Important Notes:

  • Your medical screening should ideally be done on the same day as your reporting.
  • If you are unable to complete the screening on that day, you must inform the International Office immediately.
  • The medical screening must be completed within seven (7) days of your arrival in Malaysia.
Student Pass & Visa Endorsement

Student Pass & Visa Endorsement

After your medical screening, Taylor’s International Office will submit your passport together wtith the relevant documents to EMGS and Immigration Malaysia for your student pass endorsement.

What You Should Know:

  • The process may take six (6) to eight 8 weeks (subject to EMGS and Immigration timelines).
  • Your student pass validity is typically twelve (12) months, but the exact duration is determined by Immigration Malaysia.
  • Once endorsed, your passport will be returned along with your iKad (International Student Card).
  • You will be issued with an iKad (International Student Card) and a medical insurance card one (1) to two (2) months upon the completion of your student pass.

Important Notes:

  • Do not make any travel plans (e.g., short holidays) during this period, as your passport will be with Immigration.
  • You must complete your medical check-up and submit your passport within seven (7) days of arrival. Failure to do so may result in insufficient processing time, requiring a Special Pass at an additional cost.
  • Submitting your passport after the expiry of your entry pass is considered overstaying, which is a serious offence in Malaysia and may result in fines, blacklisting, or imprisonment or a combination of all.

If your medical screening is unsuccessful, the medical facility (clinic, in this regard) will notify you. Appeals are subject to EMGS approval and are not guaranteed.

iKad (International Student Card)

iKad (International Student Card)

Once your student pass is endorsed, you will be issued an iKad—a student identification card issued by the Immigration Department. You can use the iKad for identification and to travel within Peninsular Malaysia. However, it is not a replacement for your passport, especially for international travel.

Your iKad will include:

  • Your full name
  • Passport number
  • Educational institution (Taylor’s University)
  • Validity period of your student pass
Opening a Bank Account

Opening a Bank Account

To help you manage your finances safely and conveniently while studying in Malaysia, we encourage you to open a local bank account once your student pass has been endorsed.

What You’ll Need:

  • An ‘Opening a Bank Account’ letter (available upon request from International Office Consultancy Counter, IOCC)
  • Your original passport
  • A copy of your eVAL (Visa Approval Letter)
  • A letter of confirmation of international student status by EMGS
  • A minimum deposit (varies depending on the bank’s requirements)

You’ll find ATM machines from at least three different banks on campus, and online banking is widely accessible across Malaysia—making it easy to handle day-to-day expenses, transfers, and bill payments.

Tip: It’s best not to carry or store large amounts of cash. Using a local bank account and debit card is a safer and more convenient way to manage your funds during your stay.

SIM Card & Mobile Access

SIM Card & Mobile Access

Staying connected is essential as you begin your journey in Malaysia—whether it’s keeping in touch with your family, accessing important university updates, or navigating your new surroundings. We recommend that you purchase a local Malaysian SIM card shortly after your arrival.

Where to Get a SIM Card:

You can conveniently buy a SIM card at the airport upon arrival. Alternatively, SIM cards are available at telecommunications outlets, convenience stores, and shopping malls near the university. Each telco provider offers a variety of prepaid and postpaid plans, many with high-speed data, international call options, and student-friendly pricing. Major providers in Malaysia include:

  • CelcomDigi
  • Maxis/Hotlink
  • U Mobile
  • Unifi Mobile

Why It’s Important:

  • Stay connected with family and friends from Day One
  • Access essential online services like Grab (ride-hailing), Google Maps, and food delivery apps
  • Receive real-time updates from Taylor’s University, including orientation info and academic notifications
  • Secure logins for banking, student portals, and more often require a mobile number for verification

What to Do if You Lose Your Passport or Travel Document

What to Do if You Lose Your Passport or Travel Document

Losing your passport or travel documents can be stressful, but we’re here to help guide you through the process. If this happens while you are studying at Taylor’s, follow the steps below carefully to ensure your safety and compliance with Malaysian Immigration regulations.

Step-by-step Guide

1.

Make a Police Report

Visit the nearest police station to report the loss of your passport or travel documents.

If your passport is damaged but not lost, you do not need a police report. You can proceed directly to your embassy.

2.

Visit Your Embassy in Malaysia

Bring your police report to your home country’s embassy to apply for a new passport. Depending on your embassy’s services:

  • If your embassy cannot issue a passport in Malaysia, they may provide a special travel document.
  • If your country does not have an embassy in Malaysia, report directly to the Enforcement Division of the Malaysian Immigration Department with your police report.

3.

Apply for a Special Pass with Photo (SP Bergambar)

Taylor’s will assist you in applying for this document. The Special Pass allows you to return to your home country to obtain a new passport.

A list of documents must be prepared as part of your application process. (refer to the below)

Cash Payment

Prepare RM 100 in cash for processing.

Important Travel Advisory

While your passport is being processed, do not make any travel plans outside of West Malaysia. This helps prevent issues such as invalid flight tickets or delays due to Immigration processing times.

Understanding Your iKad

Understanding Your iKad

The iKad is your official international student identification card in Malaysia. It verifies your student status at Immigration checkpoints and enforcement posts, and can be used in place of your passport when required.

Each iKad is:

  • Valid for twelve (12) months
  • Non-transferable (issued specifically to you)

You are eligible to renew your iKad once a year, provided you:

  • Maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.0
  • Achieve at least 80% class attendance

Medical and Health Insurance Requirements

Medical and Health Insurance Requirements

To ensure your well-being while studying in Malaysia, medical and health insurance is mandatory for all international students. This coverage helps protect you in the event of illness, accidents, or emergencies during your time here.

You don’t need to arrange it yourself. The International Office will purchase your insurance on your behalf through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS).

Exemptions from EMGS Insurance

You may be exempted from this insurance requirement if:

  • You hold one of the valid passes listed below, and
  • You can provide documentation showing that you already have personal insurance coverage

The supporting documents must be submitted to the International Office for verification. You may qualify for an exemption if you hold one of the following passes as below. Even if you're exempted from EMGS insurance, it's important to ensure you’re adequately covered by your own insurance throughout your stay in Malaysia.

What Happens If You Overstay

What Happens If You Overstay

It’s important that you keep track of your Student Pass expiry dates. Overstaying—even unintentionally—is a serious offence under Malaysian law and can lead to severe consequences.

If you overstay:

  • Immigration Malaysia may impose a penalty between RM 1,000 – RM 10,000, depending on the length of overstay.
  • You may be blacklisted, deported, or barred from re-entering Malaysia for a period of time.
  • In serious cases, imprisonment may apply.
  • Taylor’s University will also impose a daily penalty charge for each day of overstay.

Note: To avoid complications, always monitor your visa status and reach out to the International Office early if you need support with renewals, cancellations, or travel plans. For more information on overstay penalties or cancellation steps, visit this page.

As an international student, you're not just here to study, you’re also part of a diverse and welcoming community. Understanding the expectations placed on you will help ensure a smooth, enjoyable, and respectful experience throughout your time in Malaysia.

Here are some important guidelines to help you stay safe, compliant, and culturally aware:

Living in Malaysia: Do’s & Don’ts

Living in Malaysia: Do’s & Don’ts

The Do's

Follow Malaysian laws

On or off campus, always respect and comply with Malaysia’s legal system.

Respect university rules

Familiarise yourself with Taylor’s policies to help maintain a safe and productive learning environment.

Respect local culture

Malaysia is multicultural. Show courtesy toward traditions and beliefs to build positive relationships and represent your home country well.

Ask for guidance

If unsure about work eligibility, studies, or daily matters, reach out to the International Office for help.

The Dont's

Avoid criminal activity

Criminal offences can lead to expulsion, deportation, or legal action by Malaysian authorities.

Don’t take unapproved jobs

Unauthorised employment can violate immigration laws and affect your Student Pass.

Follow university policies

Ignoring academic or behavioural rules may result in disciplinary action or jeopardise your visa status.

Respect Malaysian customs

Avoid actions or remarks that could offend cultural or religious sensitivities, such as inappropriate attire in places of worship or insensitive comments.

Drug & Poison Laws

Drug & Poison Laws

While you’re studying in Malaysia, it’s important to understand that drug-related offences are taken extremely seriously under Malaysian law. The consequences can be severe, even for first-time offenders—so it's vital to stay informed and make the right choices.

You are committing a serious offence if you:

  • Are found in possession of any kind of drugs or poisons, as defined under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952
  • Are involved in providing, supplying, distributing, offering, or preparing drugs or poisons for others
  • Are found to be using or abusing any type of illegal or controlled substance

Drug offences can result in arrest, imprisonment, deportation, and a lifetime ban from re-entering Malaysia. In some cases, the penalties may even include capital punishment.

Weapons & Dangerous Materials

Weapons & Dangerous Materials

For your safety and the safety of others, it is strictly prohibited for students to possess or be responsible for any dangerous weapons or explosive materials while studying in Malaysia.

Under the Weapons Act 1971, the term ‘weapon’ includes items such as firearms, knives, explosives, and other objects that can be used to cause harm or threaten others.

Being found in possession or control of such items is a serious criminal offence and may result in arrest, prosecution, deportation, or permanent bans from re-entry into Malaysia.

What You Should Do:

  • Do not bring any item that may be classified as a weapon—even for sport, cosplay, or self-defence—without fully understanding local laws.
  • If you're unsure whether an item is considered dangerous or illegal, always check before bringing it to campus or carrying it in public.

If you have any questions or concerns about what is allowed, please speak to our team at the International Office (IO). We're here to help you stay informed and safe throughout your time at Taylor’s.

As you reach the end of your academic journey at Taylor’s, a new chapter begins. You might be preparing for graduation, planning to continue your studies, or exploring opportunities to work and stay in Malaysia — we’re here to support you every step of the way.
