As one of the University's fastest-growing schools, the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences is committed to delivering a top-tier education. We build a strong foundation through liberal arts subjects, encouraging intellectual curiosity and broad-based learning across disciplines.

 

Established in 2013, the School evolved from the well-established American Degree Program (founded in 1996), as well as the Citizenship Values Education programme. We now offer a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate pathways, allowing you to pursue a liberal arts major that aligns with your chosen field of study. Our portfolio includes the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), Bachelor of Performing Arts (Honours), Social Science specialising in International Relations, the American Degree Program, and the Foundation in Arts, complemented by language programmes from the Centre for Languages & Cultural Studies.

 

As the most multidisciplinary school on campus, we champion a broad and flexible education. This develops adaptable graduates with strong analytical skills that employers seek. Prof Dr Rozainee Khairudin profile photo

Prof Dr Rozainee Khairudin

Acting Head of School of Liberal Arts and Sciences

As Acting Head of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Professor Dr Rozainee Khairudin brings extensive experience in academic leadership, psychology, research and interdisciplinary education. She is a Professor of Psychology at Taylor’s University and has held leadership roles in academia, including serving as Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Reading and Master’s and PhD degrees in Cognitive Science from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, her research focuses on mindset, cognitive psychology, memory and cognitive decline. Her work explores how psychological and cognitive factors influence well-being, learning and human development.

Beyond her academic work, Professor Dr Rozainee is the Director of the Mental Health and Well-being Impact Lab at Taylor’s University, where she leads multidisciplinary research aimed at addressing real-world challenges. Her work includes initiatives supporting marginalised communities, older adults and individuals experiencing cognitive decline, with a strong emphasis on translating research into meaningful social impact.

She also serves as the Cluster Lead for Psychology of Modernisation under Taylor’s Centre for Asian Modernisation, contributing to interdisciplinary research that examines psychology and human development within the context of a rapidly changing Asia. Her academic and professional contributions extend to national and international psychology networks, including leadership within the Malaysian Psychological Association.

Above all, Professor Dr Rozainee is committed to fostering an environment where students develop intellectual curiosity, critical thinking and a deeper understanding of human behaviour. Through education, research and real-world engagement, she hopes to empower graduates to become thoughtful, resilient and socially responsible contributors to society.

Dr Lim Hooi Shan profile photo

Dr Lim Hooi Shan

Programme Director of Master of Clinical Psychology

As Programme Director and Head of HEART Psychological Services, Dr Lim Hooi Shan brings 12 years of experience in psychology, teaching, and professional practice. Through the programme, she works closely with students to develop both clinical competence and a deeper understanding of psychological wellbeing across different communities and contexts.

 

Holding a Doctor of Philosophy with specialisations in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, and Applied Psychology, Dr Lim’s areas of expertise include psychological interventions, gender, moderation and mediation, validation, mood disorders, ethics, and culture.

 

Her teaching and programme design are shaped through active involvement with professional bodies and clinical practice. Dr Lim currently serves as Executive Member (Professional Development Lead) and Ethics Task Force member under the Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology, alongside roles with the National Committee on Clinical Psychology Programme Standards (MAHPC) and Online Distance Learning Guideline Development for Clinical Psychology. She also continues practising within private clinical centres.

 

Dr Lim’s contributions have also been recognised through awards and recognitions including the Eighth Park Jung-heun Young Scholar Award, IUCEL Silver Award, EMAS Silver Award, and multiple recognitions under the EConDev Awards.

 

Above all, Dr Lim hopes students graduate as compassionate, ethical, and competent clinical psychologists who contribute meaningfully through the scientist-practitioner-advocate model.

Associate Professor Dr Zainah Ahmad Zamani profile photo

Associate Professor Dr Zainah Ahmad Zamani

Programme Director of Master of Counselling

As Programme Director, Assoc. Prof Dr Zainah Ahmad Zamani brings 36 years of experience in the field of counselling, with a strong focus on adolescent counselling and professional counsellor development. Through the programme, she works closely with students to develop the knowledge, ethics, and practical competencies needed within the counselling profession.

 

Holding a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology and Counselling, Dr Zainah’s expertise centres on adolescent counselling and the development of competent and ethical counselling practices.

 

Her teaching and programme design are shaped through engagements with professional and regulatory bodies, including MARA and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), where she has served as a Panel Assessor and VBE Panel Member.

 

Dr Zainah’s contributions have also been recognised through appointments and awards including the UKM Excellence Service Award and the UKM 20 Years Service Award.

 

Dr Zainah hopes students grow into counsellors who are not only competent in practice, but also grounded in ethics, empathy, and professional responsibility.

Dr Andrea Passeri profile photo

Dr Andrea Passeri

Programme Director of Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) in International Relations

As Programme Director of the Bachelor of Social Science (Hons) in International Relations, Dr Andrea Passeri brings 12 years of experience in teaching and research within the field of international relations. Through the programme, he helps students develop a deeper understanding of global affairs, geopolitics, and international cooperation.

 

Holding a PhD in International Relations of East Asia from the University of Cagliari, Italy, his research focuses on international relations theory, international history, East Asian politics, and strategic studies, with particular interest in how smaller and middle powers navigate great-power competition in Southeast Asia.

 

His teaching is informed by engagements with policy and real-world institutions, including commissioned studies for the Italian Parliament and Italian Senate, as well as research grants awarded by the European Union.

 

Dr Andrea Passeri also serves as Cluster Leader for Politics and International Relations at the Centre for Asian Modernisation (CAM) at Taylor's University, coordinating research initiatives on regional politics and international relations in Asia.

 

For him, international relations education should equip students with intellectual curiosity, strong analytical skills, and the ability to translate knowledge into meaningful real-world impact.
