What is the Young Entrepreneurship Challenge (YEC) about?

The Young Entrepreneurship Challenge (YEC) is a competition designed to encourage and support young aspiring entrepreneurs in developing and pitching their business ideas. Participants are tasked with creating a comprehensive business plan and presenting it to a panel of judges. The challenge often includes several stages, such as drafting a business proposal, receiving mentorship, pitching to a panel of judges, and if qualified, compete in a 2-day retail challenge at Pavilion Bukit Jalil.

  • Open to Malaysian and International students.
  • Students from any programme at Taylor's University or Taylor’s College are welcome to apply.

The challenge unfolds over multiple stages:

 

Preliminary Rounds (9 August - 23 September)

  • Drafting Business Proposals: 9 August - 17 September
  • Final Screening of Proposals: 17 September - 23 September
  • Mentorship and Guidance: 23 September - 2 October, with support from BizPod mentors

Semi-Finals (2 October)

  • Participants will present their business proposals to a panel of judges at Taylor's University- Lakeside Campus.
  • Finalists for the YEC Challenge will be announced.

Finals (2 - 3 November)

  • Finalists will compete in a two-day retail challenge at Pavilion Bukit Jalil.

 

Overall Challenge Duration: 9 August - 3 November (duration may vary based on progression through the rounds).

The semi finals will take place at Taylor's University on 2 October 2024.


Teams that advance to the finals will compete at Pavilion Bukit Jalil on 2 and 3 November 2024.

The Semi finals will be held from 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM

What type of products can teams come up with?

What type of products can teams come up with?

Teams can develop any product or idea, including arts, crafts, services like applications, e-commerce platforms, and more.

 

However, food and beverage products are strictly prohibited.

What platform do we use to draft our business proposal?

What platform do we use to draft our business proposal?

Participants are required to use Powerpoint presentation to draft their business proposal.
Is there a maximum number of slides for the business proposal?

Is there a maximum number of slides for the business proposal?

A maximum of 10 pages of slides.

How long will the presentations be?

Presentations will span for 10 minutes.

When will BizPod mentorship be provided?

When will BizPod mentorship be provided?

Mentorship to refine business proposals will be scheduled between 23 September until the presentation on 2 October. 

The mentorship is only applicable to candidates who pass the final screening of proposals in the preliminary rounds.

What prizes can participants expect from this challenge?

  • Semi-Finalists: Participants who reach the semi-finals will receive certificates of participation.
  • Finalists: Those who advance to the finals will be awarded certificates, RM 1,000 in funding, and the opportunity to keep all profits earned from the retail challenge.
