As Programme Director and Senior Lecturer, Dr Tan has spent the past decade in the field of education, helping students develop a deeper understanding of teaching, learning, and the evolving role of education in society.
Holding a Doctor of Philosophy (Education) specialising in Curriculum and Instruction, alongside a Bachelor of Education (TESL) with a minor in English Literature, she brings expertise in teacher education, English education, classroom discourse and interaction, reflective learning, and technology in education.
Drawing from projects involving curriculum development for out-of-school children and youth at Yayasan Chow Kit, collaborations with international schools on teaching practicum preparedness, and training initiatives in areas such as virtual reality classrooms and AI in teaching and learning, Dr Tan brings contemporary and real-world educational perspectives into programme design and classroom teaching.
She has also received various recognitions in teaching and educational innovation, including Gold Awards and Gold Medals at national and international competitions such as IUCEL, iTaLiiC, and IINNCOME, alongside recognition through the Exemplary Meritorious Academic Staff (EMAS) Award.
Above all, Dr Tan believes education should cultivate a continuous spirit of discovery, guiding students towards more thoughtful, purposeful, and ethical growth in both research and practice.
