In My Eyes

In my eyes

I was minding my own business in the Student Life Center when a chill ran down my spine as I felt someone's stares piercing the back of my head but when I turned around, there was no one in the room aside from Jonathan who walked past the hallway earlier. He seemed friendly but something about him made me unsettled.

Though that feeling stuck with me, I brushed it aside and continued with my assignments. It was 11am and I only had an hour to go till the deadline submission! After an hour, I finally uploaded my assignment and as I hit enter, an error appeared:

Deadline: Friday, 13 October, 12.00am

“Damn it!” I muttered under my breath as I realised I missed the submission deadline by a whole day! With my head buried in my hands, I felt the exhaustion in my shoulders making a trip to the rest of my body. As I was about to shake the exhaustion away, I felt a tap on my shoulder from behind the sofa, against the wall. True enough, as I turned, there was Jonathan, right beside my chair, against the wall. There’s that feeling again — something definitely wasn’t right.

Let me paint you a picture. Dark hair and brown eyes that you could draw you in with its warmness, yet a smile so sinister, you could sense something dark was brewing. I could feel the desire in that unwanted shoulder tap. His desire for ultimate power and control was evident. In the blink of an eye, and before I could even process what was happening, he touched me again. This time, I let out a low shriek...

But no one was there...

In the Eyes of Others

In the eyes of: Lydia

I was focusing all my attention on the new episode of the Taylor’s Podcast, and wondering if a guy holding my hand while we crossed the street would make it a first date, when a low but loud shriek that came from the Student Life Centre caught my attention. Typically, I’d ignore anything that'd interrupt my flow of thoughts, but something told me to find out what the commotion was all about. I entered and death twisted my guts when I heard the soft sniffles in front of my very eyes. I knew I had to do something about it.

"What did you do?"

I asked him when I saw what had happened. Startled, he turned around and, trying to keep a cool and calm demeanour, he replied with menace, "It-it was just a joke...". I saw no ounce of kindness or forgiveness in his dark eyes. The raw panic in his voice was imperceptible but still evident.

"Answer me!" I yelled sternly. "Do you think she thought it was a joke?" I pointed in her direction...

"I'm sorry. I’m sorry."

I cried on my knees, begging for forgiveness. "Not to me! To her," she said. I turned to the girl she was pointing at.

Her knees were tucked towards her chest and the distant look of fright plastered on her face. At that instance, I knew that I could never erase the look of her face from my memory. I knew that the blind terror of what had just happened would haunt her throughout her life. I knew that my actions that I thought were a joke, wasn’t at all a joke to her.

For a moment of my own pleasure, what have I done?
