Taylor’s University Researchers made it into Stanford University’s list of World’s Top 2% Scientists, 2020. The report recently released was prepared by a team of experts led by Prof. John Ioannidis, the eminent Professor at the Stanford University. The database was created to provide updated analyses and a publicly available database of top scientists.

One of our researchers, Professor Dr Lai Nai Ming from the School of Medicine was one of the 8 researchers and student from Taylor’s University on the list of a group of over 100,000 scientists, classified via 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields features. For over 15 years, Dr Lai has been an author and trainer of the Cochrane Collaboration, the most highly-regarded source of systematic reviews to inform health care practices. While honoured by the number of citations received for his work, Dr Lai considered it important to see citation number in perspective, as citation is only part of the overall impact of systematic reviews, while their direct access and incorporation into practice by health care decision makers to improve health outcomes is the most desirable impact of these reviews.

Synopsis

Dr Lai’s research focus is evidence synthesis through systematic reviews in a wide range of areas including Paediatrics and Neonatal Medicine (Neonatal Jaundice, central venous catheter care, Paediatric neuro-sedation and constipation), Intensive Care (Central venous catheter modification and skin antisepsis), Geriatrics (Animal-assisted therapy for dementia) and Dermatology (eczema treatment). A number of the reviews he authored have been widely adopted in clinical practice guidelines in different countries and were translated into multiple languages.
