On 23 June, NextGens from Taylor’s FamBiz Club embarked on an inspiring dual-site visit that blended hands-on learning with the rich stories of two very different family enterprises, both steeped in passion and innovation.
Their day began at FireFighter Malaysia Sdn Bhd, where Chief Innovation Officer Brian Soo and Executive Director Michelle Hah co-hosted a session that wove together FireFighter’s evolution and the personal family journeys that shaped it. Brian traced the company’s growth as well as how he plans to disrupt the perception of fire safety industry, while Michelle talked about her pivotal decision to join the family business after an inspiring 18-year career at Sime UEP Berhad—showcasing how deep family bonds can drive shared vision. The presentation seamlessly transitioned into a fire-safety briefing that touched on different classes of fire and its corresponding extinguisher, after which the NextGens participated in a hands-on drill, deploying extinguishers to put out a controlled flame.
Next on the itinerary was Raja Itik Panggang, where founder Dr Mohammad Taufiq welcomed the group into his central kitchen. Under the guidance of the head chef, students observed the process behind Malaysia’s pioneering halal roast duck—from ingredients to marinade to perfect crispness. After a lunch of succulent duck rice, Dr. Taufiq shared his entrepreneurial journey: the inspiration behind introducing halal roast duck to the local market, the operational challenges he overcame, and his vision for growth without compromising on quality or tradition.
Throughout both visits, the Taylor’s FamBiz NextGens posed thoughtful questions that demonstrated keen business acumen and genuine curiosity. Their engagement not only underscored the value of experiential learning but also left both host families invigorated by fresh perspectives. This immersive outing exemplified how next-generation leaders can draw on real-world insights to fuel their own family-enterprise ambitions.
