On 30th September, Taylor’s Centre for Family Business (TCFB) hosted a workshop that looked beyond conventional discussions of succession and governance. Facilitated by creative entrepreneur Lili Loy of Soull Studio, the session invited the Taylor’s community to explore the meditative art of woodblock printing while reflecting on the realities of family enterprises.

The craft itself offered a powerful metaphor. Carving a woodblock requires patience and intention—each cut permanent, shaping every print to follow. In family businesses, decisions made today carry the same weight, influencing generations to come. And just as each print, though drawn from the same block, carries subtle differences, each generation in a family enterprise brings its own interpretation, creativity, and leadership.

Lili shared her journey of growing up in a family that owns and operates several large businesses, while now carving her own path through art. Her practice at Soull Studio exemplifies the balance between honoring tradition and forging individuality—an experience that resonates deeply with many family business successors navigating legacy and change.

The hands-on workshop also offered participants a pause from daily work, creating space to reflect on resilience, continuity, and the role of governance in sustaining family enterprises. In the quiet act of pressing ink to paper, the themes of renewal, patience, and stewardship found tangible expression.

By the end, each attendee held a print of their own making—a reminder that while the foundation of a family business endures, every generation leaves a distinct impression. Through art and conversation, this workshop revealed that sustaining family enterprises is less about preserving sameness, and more about embracing continuity with imagination and courage.
