IUCEL celebrates educators who use technology to help every learner thrive. It began as the National University Carnival on e-Learning and opened its doors to the world in 2016. Each year a different university welcomes participants, together with MEIPTA, the e-learning council of Malaysia’s public universities, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia (MOHE). At its heart is the Invention, Innovation and Design on e-Learning (IIDEL) competition, where educators share their innovations and are recognised with gold, silver and bronze medals.
This year’s carnival, held in October alongside Universiti Malaya’s UM Mastery in Innovative Teaching Colloquium (UM MINT), carried the theme ‘Redefining Cybergogy Beyond Algorithms’. It invited educators to look past automation, towards learning that is human-centred, inclusive and meaningful. That vision sits close to the heart of how we teach at Taylor’s.
Our teams answered that invitation with creativity and generosity. Colleagues from all four of the university’s faculties and Taylor’s College built AI learning coaches and clinical reasoning simulators, immersive virtual and augmented reality experiences, gamified heritage learning and HyFlex support for postgraduate students. Several worked hand in hand with partners, including Monash University, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah, EngageXR and Cisco Malaysia, and with our own students.
A special congratulations goes to Dr Md. Uzir Hossain Uzir, Andrew Ang Dun Yu and Muhammad Haziq Firdaus Mhd Arifin. Their project, Anchor, Augment, Assure: A Human-Centred Online Course Design for Quality Management, received the Best Micro-Credentials Award as well as a Gold medal.
This year’s results continue a story of recognition at IUCEL that goes back to 2018. More than that, they reflect the care our educators bring to their students every day.
