Taylor’s University recently welcomed an official delegation from the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development of the Republic of Seychelles for a campus visit aimed at strengthening educational understanding, student engagement, and potential areas of future collaboration.

 

The delegation was led by the Honourable Minister for Education and Human Resource Development, Ambassador David Pierre, accompanied by Special Advisor to the Minister, John Lesperance; Principal Secretary for Infrastructure and Support Services, Bernard Arnephy; and Director General for Careers and Further Education Development, Ms Francoise Mein. Representing Taylor’s University in welcoming the delegation were Professor Dr Barry Winn, Vice-Chancellor and President of Taylor’s University; Professor Dr Anthony Ho Siong Hock, Pro Vice-Chancellor, External Engagement; Angie Ng, Chief Planning and Performance Officer; and Tan Huey Kuan, Senior Director of International Recruitment.

The visit formed part of the Ministry’s broader mission to gain a deeper understanding of Malaysia’s tertiary education landscape, including its governance structures, quality assurance practices, student support systems, and opportunities for academic cooperation. For Taylor’s University, the engagement provided a meaningful platform to showcase its holistic learning environment, impact-driven education, and commitment to preparing students for a rapidly evolving global workforce.

Strengthening International Education Dialogue

The visit began with a warm welcome by a Seychellois student currently studying at Taylor’s, reflecting the university’s diverse international student community and the close student connections that continue to shape the Taylor’s experience. The delegation also had the opportunity to engage directly with students, gaining first-hand insights into their learning journey, campus experience, industry exposure, and overall adaptation to student life in Malaysia.

In his welcome remarks, Professor Dr Barry Winn shared Taylor’s University’s vision, strategic direction, and ongoing development as one of Malaysia’s leading private universities. He also highlighted the university’s commitment to academic excellence, industry relevance, innovation, and student-centred learning, while expressing Taylor’s openness to exploring potential opportunities for collaboration with Seychelles in the future.

Experiencing Taylor’s Learning Environment First-Hand

A key highlight of the visit was the delegation’s tour of the VORTEX XR Lab, where they were introduced to Taylor’s immersive learning capabilities and the role of extended reality in transforming education. The visit offered a glimpse into how emerging technologies are being integrated into teaching and learning to create more interactive, experiential, and future-ready academic environments.

The distinguished guests were also given a tour of Taylor’s professional culinary and baking facilities. Through the visit, the delegation experienced the creativity, craftsmanship, and industry-standard learning environment that support students in developing practical skills for the hospitality, culinary, and food-related sectors. The showcase reflected Taylor’s emphasis on applied learning, where students are exposed to real-world environments that mirror professional industry settings.
