Family businesses are built on more than products and profits. They are built on relationships, shared values, and a vision that extends beyond a single generation.
Our centre once again collaborated with the Malaysian Timber Council Youth Circle Committee and Dr Johnben Loy to host our second Unlocking Your Legacy programme, an exclusive programme that brought together family businesses from Malaysia's wood and timber industry. The event created a dedicated space for next-generation family members (and even founders) to engage in meaningful conversations about leadership, succession, communication, and the future of their businesses.
It was encouraging to see that more than 70% of participants identified themselves as second-generation members of their family businesses, reflecting a growing willingness among future leaders to invest in their own development while preparing to carry their family legacies forward.
Throughout the programme, participants shared experiences, exchanged perspectives, and reflected on the opportunities and challenges unique to family enterprises. Rather than focusing solely on business strategy, the discussions centred on strengthening trust, aligning expectations across generations, and preparing families for sustainable leadership transitions.
The programme also achieved a +38 Net Promoter Score (NPS), indicating that participants found value in both the learning experience and the opportunity to connect with peers facing similar family business dynamics.
At Taylor's Centre for Family Business, we believe that every industry has its own unique family business story. By creating trusted spaces where business families can learn from one another, challenge assumptions, and prepare for the future together, we hope to strengthen not only individual enterprises but also the wider family business ecosystem.
