Taylor's Academic Language and Knowledge Hub

TALK@Taylor's

TALK@Taylor’s is your academic language and communication hub, under the School of General Studies and Languages (SGSL) and open to every Taylor’s student at both Taylor’s University and Taylor’s College.

We support you in developing your academic writing, research, referencing, presentation and communication skills, helping you approach your academic work with greater confidence. You can work one-to-one with a trained Peer Coach, join a small-group clinic or participate in a workshop.

Five TALK@Taylor's Peer Coaches at the Hub, Block C, Level 6

Bring your draft and we’ll work through it together.

Develop your academic writing, referencing and organisation of ideas with support from a Peer Coach. Bring a draft, essay, report, literature review or notes for discussion. Your Peer Coach will help you identify areas for improvement and develop strategies you can apply to future assignments.

Sessions are available one-to-one or in small groups of up to three students working on the same topic, with each session lasting up to one hour. You can book repeat sessions with the same Peer Coach, subject to availability.

WHO IT’S FOR

You've started an assignment and can't get it to hold together

You're not sure you've understood what the question is really asking

Your feedback keeps mentioning structure, argument or clarity

You're worried about referencing and want to get it right

You're returning to study, or studying in English at this level for the first time

What we don’t do

We’re here to help you build your own skills, so we don’t:

  • proofread or edit your work line by line
  • correct the grammar throughout a document
  • mark your work or predict your grade
  • comment on whether your subject content is correct, because that’s a conversation for your lecturer
  • help with timed or in-progress assessments

Students chat in a relaxed small-group speaking session with a peer coach

Build your confidence, one conversation at a time.

TALK@Taylor’s helps you develop your spoken English and communication confidence through peer support tailored to your needs. You can practise speaking one-to-one or in small groups, engage in conversations and receive practical tips from Peer Coaches to improve your pronunciation, fluency, clarity and confidence when expressing your ideas.

WHO IT’S FOR

You understand far more English than you feel able to speak

You have things to say in tutorials and never quite say them

You avoid group work because of the talking, not the work

You want to practise regularly without it feeling like a class

You're new to Malaysia or new to Taylor's and want to meet people

What we don’t do

  • run IELTS, MUET or TOEFL preparation
  • assess or certify your spoken English level
  • correct every mistake as you speak, because that’s how people stop speaking

A student rehearses his explanation while a peer coach listens

Walk into your presentation feeling ready.

TALK@Taylor’s helps you prepare for presentations and pitches through personalised peer support. Peer Coaches provide practical feedback on presentation structure, content, timing, delivery and speaking techniques. Bring your slides, notes or presentation brief for guidance on organising your ideas, improving your delivery and building your confidence.

Sessions are available one-to-one or in small groups of up to three students and last up to one hour. You can book repeat sessions with the same Peer Coach, subject to availability.

WHO IT’S FOR

You have a graded presentation and you've never enjoyed presenting

Your slides are done but you don't know what to actually say

You run over time, or run out of things to say too early

You're presenting as a group and it isn't coming together

You're preparing for a competition, a pitch or an industry panel

What we don’t do

  • write your presentation or your script for you
  • design your slides
  • tell you whether your content will pass

Use AI tools with confidence and integrity.

AI tools can help you brainstorm, organise your ideas and make sense of difficult material. This support helps you use them to strengthen your learning while keeping your own critical thinking and academic integrity at the centre of your work.

Step 1: Book A Session

Fill in the booking form, choose a time that suits you and tell us briefly what you’d like to work on. You’ll get a confirmation by email. Already on campus? Scan the QR code at the Hub desk, and if a coach is free, you could start straight away.

Step 2: Bring What You Have

Bring your draft, notes or slides, even if they’re unfinished, plus the assignment brief and marking rubric if you have them. A rough idea of what’s worrying you most helps too. Coming for a speaking session? Just bring yourself.

Step 3: Keep Going

After your session, your coach may send a short follow-up summarising what you discussed, along with a few useful resources. Book again whenever you’re ready, with the same Peer Coach if they’re available.
